1.  What brand(s) protein shake is used post-op?  Is any kind OK as long as you reach your daily protein goal?

2.  Is it ok to use artificial sweetner post-op?  Any brands/types that are not allowed?

Thanks!

Hi, My surgeon, had a list of recommended proteins to try. But the biggest point was that it be a whey protein.  You may want to try a few samples before committing to one brand as your tastes before and after surgery may change.    I use an artificial sweetner I haven't had any problems with it but I noticed I don't have to use too much as most things taste too sweet.

Good luck!

Thank you!  I would like to find a protein shake I like prior to sugery.  I will sample around. :)

Whey protein with no added sugars.. keep it low carb. Some proteins are not crab friendly. so compare labels.

Artificial sweetners are A-OK post op. I find splenda or stevia to be better for me. But no restrictions on brand or tyope other than avoiding the real thing.

Hope this helps you.

Yes Jen, order samples of various whey protein powders.  Your tastes may change after surgery, that is why I recommend to not buy any large containers of things that you may not tolerate after surgery.  Samples can be obtained from various companies, try unjury, your local gnc store, health food stores, and there are others that I can not recall the names of right now.  Some offer free samples, others you will pay a small fee for.

I am able to tolerate artificial sweeteners, some can not.  I do not use much sweetener, things seem way to sweet.  Even my crystal light seems sweet.  I use more water to mix the crystal light into.  Hope this helps.  If I recall more companies for samples, I will share.  Hugs

This is a very good question.
A lot of the companies out there will send you protein shake samples if you ask for them.
Definately get one that you like before surgery.
After surgery is not the time to experiment.

Now I cannot use an artifical sweetner. It's not that my body can't tolerate it.
I'm a sweet fanatic by nature, so I have noticed that if I have a coffee in the morning and put Splenda in it, that sets the day with a craving for more sweets.
I have cut coffee out of my diet, unless I drink it black, or at night.
If I do have a craving, I will usually have a protein pudding or protein cappuccino after dinner, and that way I won't be craving sugars all day.

Good Luck.
