I got my referral today for my sleep study.  The last thing I needed to do!  Then it will be time to see the surgeon and set my surgery date.

I called to make my appointment and they are so far behind in seeing patients that they are not accepting any new appointments until March!!  I can make my appointment in March but I wont get my sleep study until late April!!

I was soooo hoping to have surgery sooner than later.  :0(  I'm really bummed.

Till next time...

OH Jen,  I am so sorry you have to deal w. this set back. I know waiting is no fun at all. You do not have anything else you can do but meet their timetable at this moment. Hard pill to swallow, Hang in there. You're not canceled. Just postponed. Does your surgeon require a sleep study on everyone? Is it the surgeon you can't get in to or the sleep study place?  Hang in there. Take some deep breaths . Stay on track. Focus on what you CAN do right now.  Is there any where else that does sleep studies in your area. I'm here for you.( as are all your friends on-line) It's good to vent. I know that I need a few days to get my head around a setback, but then I ask myself to find something good to do w/ the extra time. Keep talking to us. We will listen,   Mag

Thank you so much Mag... you said all the right things. :0)  Yes, the surgeon requires everyone to have a sleep study.  It is the sleep study I can't get into.  However, there is a 2 month wait list for a surgeon as well.  I knew it would take 2 months for surgery and was OK with it but I wasn't prepared to have another 2 months added for the sleep study wait.  I have an appointment on the 22nd.  I am going to ask then if I can't get a referral to another sleep study clinic.

Thanks again...

Jen, so sorry to hear of this setback... I know we all can relate to having things postponed or having to wait on something. I often get bummed at first but then after having encouraging words from others and actually sitting down and having some quiet time with God - I realize that everything happens for a reason and everything is on God's timing not ours. So as I was told yesterday, One hoop at a time :)

I didn't have to do a sleep study but I wonder if your primary doctor can set up one for you somewhere else maybe instead of having to wait until April ?? Just a thought - maybe you could ask him/her.

We are here for you :)  ** hugs**

i am so sorry.  I felt the same disappointed. When I met with the surgeon the 1st time, they made it sound like I had enough time to get things done and I could possibly have had surgery in November.  So I had all my appts and pre-op stuff done in 2 weeks.  Well when I called to see when I had a date.  They told me that they were booked up til Jan.   I was so mad and disappointed.  Because for 2 weeks I was running around, thinking to have surgery before the holidays.  Needless to say, I am now glad that I had surgery in Jan after all the holidays.

Dont worry.  The time will fly.  Use this time to implement heathery choices and lifestyle changes that will make post surgery life a little easier.

I don't like it but I have to wait for the sleep study so I'll wait.

I am TOTALLY preparing for surgery!  I changed my eating habits about a week ago.  Eating low calorie, low fat, high protein and doing really good... so far. lol  I quit diet soda today.  I'm not sure how well that will go since I just gave it up today. lol  I'm working on eating small bites and chewing VERY good.  I also joined a gym and get to start March 1st!  I have been keeping calories under 2000 a day too and keeping a food journal!

I'm still having problems with portion control, not stopping when I'm full, and snacking though.  One thing at a time... I have plenty of time to practice. lol  I'm really hoping I can stick with it because if I didn't have trouble sticking with it I would be skinny. lol I also need to work on giving up fluids during meals... thats going to be hard. :0(

Jen, so sorry that the 'hoops' seem to spread themselves out in time.  You are special and this will happen.  I am rooting for you, hoping that someone passes on their sleep study time and you can get slipped into the schedule earlier.  I had my sleep study a couple of years before surgery, and am a proud owner of my cpap machine.  Love the increased energy and daytime alertness.  Hello world.

I too had a hard time separating fluids from my meals before surgery.  It is much easier after surgery, not room for both liquids and solids.  Yayyyy RNY.  If this process was easy, and we could do all the skills before surgery, we would not need the surgery.  I am in your corner.

I read in another post that you are on dialysis.  Hope that is sailing along smoothly as you wait for your wls.  Hugs

Dialysis is going good, thank you.

I have an appointment on the 22nd with my NUT.  I have to follow a special post-op diet.  No dairy, nuts, and I can have very few "green" veggies or whole grains... not to mention my fluid restrictions!  it's going to be a challenge.

I have always had a problem with portion control until my GI doctor told me to change plates.... Go from a normal size plate to a saucer or only eat what you can fit in the palm of your hand. I looked at him as if he had lost his mind. But it works and I don't ever go for 2nd helpings even if I am not full yet.

I have never really been one to drink with my meal so that hasn't been difficult to do. But one thing to try is don't even fix you a glass of anything to have in front of you while your eating. Also, in between bites - put your fork or spoon down. It will help you eat slower :) Just some lil tid bits I have learned.
