OT- In the throes of a relapse

If anyone has wondered where I've gone, well the truth is I've been fighting off an MS relapse for several days. It started off mildly and I wasn't sure but now I can no longer deny it. In case you are wondering what an MS relapse is like, let me briefly describe it. My right elbow hurts like the dickens and my right arm is useless. My legs feel like they weigh 1 ton each. I can hardly see the screen as I write this due to optic neuritis.
I called a new neurologist yesterday and I'm afraid I'll have  to schedule a cortisone IV drip. That one scares me more than anything else, because I recently broke the 90-kilo barrier and I don't want to gain again. I'm half tempted to wait it out, but things can get a lot worse and drag on for a long time if I do. Well, I guess I had an 1 year grace period symptoms-free. It was good while it lasted *sigh*

Oh Amalia, I am so sorry you are in a relapse.  I can't image how diificult it must be for you right now. How much of a dose do you get when it is an IV drip? I will lift prayers up for you for a very speedy return to remission.  Is that what you call it? Remission? Take good care of yourself.  Mag

Thx Mag. The dose is 1000 mg per day for 5 days if I remember correctly. Yes, only I've never really been in remission since I'm now secondary progressive. This is just some "extra" baggage.

Do what you have to do to get better and over this.  I know that you hate the steroids, but if it gets back on your feet faster, then it is well worth it.  SO sorry that you are going through what you are going through.  Hope that you make a speedy recovery.  HUGgggs

Amalia,

I'm so sorry to hear that you are in relapse and  a  understand why you would be hesitant about that cortisone shot.   Talk to your doctor about this.  He may be able to give you something to boost your metabolism while you are going through treatment.

I will keep you in my prayers for a speedy return to remission.

Yes Amalia, I have been missing your posts.  So sorry that the MS is rearing its ugly head at this time.  Do not let things go overly long, you know the risks.  I know the side effects of steroids, but they are a necessity for you from time to time.  You made it through the last bout with some effort.  I anticipate that you will get through this episode too.  Know that I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.  Hugs from this side of the ocean to yours.  Take care during this time.

I'm going to the hospital today. It's quite possible that they will keep me there. I'm packing just in case. Thank you for the wishes.
