OH MY O MY need advice! update on appt
OK i will try to do a shotrt version of my appoinment today. the weather was sooooooo bad and we barely made it there honestly. he was impressed with me - my adovcation for myself, my knowledge of everything and intelligence, and that i was on time (early actually even in a snow storm). He spent a lot of time with me, released my records so i can see them on mychart, told me i do have a small goiter, decided to send me for an echo (done today) , and changed some of my medications that needed changed and checked my blood pressure a 2nd time (luckily it was normal but he still put i am borderline hypertension in my file). I am very tired. i cant sleep well at my aunt's house. but here's the kicker:
He said they will submit to insurance today or tomorrow more than likely.....
AND
there is barely a wait for surgery so once i get approved the surgery could be 1-2 weeks out!
I am kind of freaking out because he said i could wait til the quarter is over, doesnt recommend going back to classes the day i get out of the hospital and told me that they will give u something to relax you but you are awake when u go back to the operating room. he reassured me that its not that bad and once they give me knock out meds it'd be 10 seconds and ill be out.
So i need advice on what to do about school. I need to see if they will work with me obviously. I cannot fail this quarter and within a few days of getting out of the hospital i would need to be in my classes. but otherwise it would be 2-4 weeks later for the surgery if all goes as planned on a timely manner and i really dont want to wait. What would you do? I really need some help and prayers for wisdom in making this decision or having an idea if the option to have it befoe March 22nd is presented to me.

I think I would try to finish out the quarter before you have surgery. I am finishing up my B.A. and I worked things out with my profs because mine was December 3rd which meant I had to miss two weeks of classes but I was in the midst of the easiest quarter I had and I had no labs or anything like that. It was also right at christmas break so that worked out. It would suck to have to go right back to class. It takes time to get on a schedule and you really need to rest and take care of yourself. I would not rush.
As for going back to the operating room. I was so relaxed I was like "ooo what is all that?" and then BAM I am waking up in the hospital room. I did not even remember the recovery room. LOL
When the nurse asked me if I wanted pain meds I said "nope it doesnt hurt and I am a tuff chick" But I did take them the next time they asked.
Let us know how it goes. :)

Sara, the hospital will work with your educational schedule, just keep yourself on track with the habits you have set up to this point. Education is extremely important too. I am keeping you and your family in my prayers that everything works out for you.
You will need some time after surgery to rest, recover and get to know your new pouch. Naps overtook me mid day when I tried to do too much. Continue to plan for what works best in your situation. Hugs

Thank you so much! :) Yes school is important so i've decided to wait even tho i dont WANT to. my daughter needs the extra time to work with her counselor and even though i feel peace about the situation some more time to work with mine would help. they told me i will be awake but relaxed by meds when i go to the operating room and then they will put me out from there. i am feeling better about it but still want to work to make sure its going okay. thanks again for your prayers. i need them!
I must say I agree with the masses....wait until the end of the quarter. You really need the time to recoup and learn your pouch and find a balance with food, liquids, protein and exercise. It really is almost a job in itself in the first few weeks.
Prayers here are with you all. You are gonna do great gal!
HUGS! AND congratulations!!!!!!
