Eating post RNY

It sure is taking me some time to get the hang of this.  I know it will take time.  After-all, I am only almost a month post-op.

Tonight I wanted something different.  So I decided to cook a pot roast with the he carrots, onions, and potatoes in the crock-pot.  Spent 9hours drooling over it as it cooked.  Had head hunger like crazy.  Sucked it up and drank half of my day's protein shake.  So finally it was done.  It was so tender, that I almost didn't puree it.  But wanting to be a "good girl" and to be kind to my pouch, I pureed 2 oz roast, 1/2 cup carrots, 1/2 potato, 1/4cup sweet onion, and some broth it all cooked in.  Made 8oz. of pureed.  So I made 2 servings (I've been able to eat 4oz at a time of food).  Boy was I disappointed. Could only eat 2oz.  Was hoping to get the entire protein of 1 oz of meat.  Trying to rely on food more for my protein and less on my shakes, since the taste of the shakes aren't all that great.

I am beginning to feel my pouch more.  I felt full before I was overstuffed.  and I stopped eating.  I still really have not felt hungry at all though.  Guess this is normal.

I inputted my food into the food log here.  If I finish the other 2 oz of the roast and the rest of my protein shake I will have 800 cal and 90 grams of protein..  50+ carbs.  Not sure how this is looking for being only a month post-op.

You're doing GREAT!  I am only allowed protein for now, no veggies, and I 'm still working up to eating 3 oz per meal.  My daily goal is 60g protein, which I'm *almost* getting in through food alone (still coming up short at breakfast - one egg + 1 oz cheese, when I need to work up to 2 eggs+cheese, or maybe add an ounce of turkey bacon to it).  I thankfully don't have to puree, so I think it's sitting a bit heavier because it's all solid food.

I am starting to feel when I'm full a little more too, although I'm basically still eating by measurement.  I am also starting to feel a little hungry, but not in a bad way - not uncomfortably so, just more the feeling of noticing that I should eat, and it's always within 30 minutes of when I would eat anyways.

had 2 eggs this morning for breakfast then felt like crap.  Think that the fat did something to me.  Got really tired and then had diarrhea. (sorry if TMI).

Im on pureeds til I see the MD next week.  I did have a few bites of the roast without it pureed.  I think that my pouch is ready to move forward.   I am also trying to get in more protein through foods.  But I have never been a breakfast eater, so I will probably always do a protein shake.  Just got my sythrax nectar samples.  A little scared to try them.  Afraid I will be disappointed. LOL

So how is your energy level.? I still get exhausted easily. Still taking a nap almost everyday.  Finally I slept more than 5 hours last night.  SO maybe as I start to  sleep more at night, I wont have to take the naps.

So how are u doing in general? hows things at work? does it feel weird eating at work? Do u pack your lunch? Hows ur lil girl?  have a great weekend

Hi Fran, at a month out, I could only eat a couple of oz of food at a time, and that was the plan of my surgeon too.  I didn't add veggies till later out in the post op process.  I could eat so little that the few tablespoons of protein more than filled me up.  It is good to listen to your pouch and stop eating before you feel "stuffed"  You are doing very well to get in 90 grams of protein.

I don't count carbs, so can not help in that part.  Are you getting in some exercise?  I recall the time of needing naps and poor sleep at night.  This passed, although a nap now and then still hits the right place.  Part of the wanting a nap may have to do with working night shift, and having more overtime than I planned on.

Dennis and I signed up for a membership at the local Y today, planning on getting in some water activities, especially with all the cold and snow we have been having lately.  Catch up with you one of these monday chat sessions.  Hugs

1 c = 8oz
3/4 = 6oz
1/2 = 4oz
1/4 = 2oz

I have these little Rubbermaid containers that hold 4 oz. (comes in a group of 4- with red tops- got them from walmart).  I pureed my foods then separate into those.  SO that helps me when I am eating.  I know that 4oz is the most that I can eat of most foods.  Yogurt I can eat a 6oz container without a problem.  Today I took 2oz cottage cheese (1/2 of a 4oz container) and mixed it with 3oz of peach yogurt (1/2- 6oz container).  Yummo!  And was a way to get a little more protein and less carbs with my yogurt.  I eat Dannon light & FIT.

i know I need to add exercise.  I have done WATP video a few times this week.  I fatigue so easily though.  I meet with the surgeon next week and I am sure they will clear me to go to the gym and back to WORK.  Once I can do that, I think that I will be able to get in a routine.  I am, SO, needing to get back into a NORMAL routine... LOL

Missed ya at monday's chat.
