Update 12 days post-op

Just wanted to share... I had RNY on 1/3/11, and had my first followup on Thursday.  I'm healing well; my stomach is still a bit swollen but the doc wasn't concerned, and she did tell me to stop obsessing about writing everything down and worrying so much, and just do what I can.  She said that the absolute #1 priority for now is getting 64 oz of water daily, and not to worry about the protein as much as the water.  I'm eating 1.5-2 oz of soft protein 3x/day, and I learned that I do NOT need to be trying to continue my 60g protein supplements daily - I need to shoot for 60g total, so only need to supplement with shakes what I don't get through food (I knew I'd be starting to wean off the shakes in a couple of weeks, didn't know I could do it yet).

I just re-weighed myself (I'm at my mom's... I don't have a scale at home but I take advantage of hers when I'm here), and I'm now down 42.5 lbs since I started this journey in July, and 24 lbs since my pre-op appointment (which is my official surgery weight)!  I weigh less than when I was 9 months pregnant, and my BMI has gone foam 44.8 to 37.9.  If I weighed this in the first place, I would not have even qualified for the surgery (I had no co-morbidities) :-)    I'm loving the fact that I'm no longer morbidly obese... next goal is Onederland, then aiming to get my BMI below 30 to be "just" obese.

I'm also starting to feel more like myself, and I'm going back to work full-time on Tuesday, which I know has a lot to do with my mood.  I'm starting to see normalcy in my future, which I love!

CONGRATS on the weight loss.  Glad that you are doing well and your post-op appt went ok.  Envious of you that you get to go back to work.  I wish I could, but I will take this time to heal.  Still don't overdue it.

Sorry Ive been MIA, but this rash that I have gotten from the steristrips and the benadryl for the itching, has been making me so tired.  I ripped all the remaining steri-strips off on Thursday and prayed the MD wouldn't say anything.  But I couldn't take it anymore.. LOL.  Incisions themselves look great.

Had my follow up as well. Lost 12 pounds since surgery for a total of close to 30 # since I started the pre-op process (beginning of Dec).  I'm happy with it, but cant really tell by looking at me and y clothes aren't that loose.  But considering that most of my clothes were uncomfortable tight, I guess that just tight is okay and is a difference.

Have a great weekend.  my sister is down and shes is wiping me out... LOL. did have to take a nap yesterday for 2 hours.  Sure she was bored, but it couldn't be helped.  Still trying to get my energy up

Fran, I noticed that some of my clothes still fit as well, but it's definitely because I was actually wearing things that DIDN'T fit... they were too small, I wore them anyways - now they actually fit!  I don't really notice the difference that much in the mirror, but other people do.

Have fun with your sister!  She can entertain herself for a couple of hours when you need to rest.

You're doing great, Lisa!  Keep up the good work and you won't believe how good you feel.  Onederland will be here before you know it.

Lisa... I agree, its that we wore clothes that really didnb't fit, and now they are fitting you right. When i had my surgery i think I was down like 35 lbs before i had to change pant sizes. BUT the ones I had been in went from tight to falling off during that 35 lbs..lol

Keep up the great work.. and take it easy upon your return to work. Rest when you need it, no matter who wants to be entertained. You just had major surgery!
