B12

I think b12 is low, feeling tired all time no matter what, lil energy less I drink coffee LOL then its short time of chatter .. I am also more distracted and cant focus.. I read of some using supplements in between shots, I am not sure about it.. any adivce?

I am not due back to my surgeon til few more weeks, but calling my PCP and see if they can get to me sooner, unfortunatly they do not like to trample on anything that has to do with the WLS, each time before I needed something , they said call my surgeon yet my surgeon said it was ok since I have to travel over hr one way to see her, and She was fine with PCP doing minimal tests, SO maybe the PCP office can pull stick out butt and do what I need..

Anyways.. If I am low...what can I take to handle the in between shot times? I heard of the melt under tongue,. 1000 ml or mcg or whatever it is..lol  SO also if anyone thinks..oh change pcps.. not that easy.. I have network that wont pay if they are not listed.. and rare in my area on net work since we are military family away from base.. yeah.. life is grand!

I take the sublingual (melt under the tongue) B12 every day.  I do not get the shots.  I just rely on the sublingual.  It does the job for me and keeps my levels up.  I'm not sure about taking between shots since I don't do them but I can't see where it would hurt, but that's just my opinion.

Dee thats what I am looking for, what is best to have.. I do not want to take anything before knowing the exact levels of my b12 so I do not hurt myself but I have a feeling , and Im pretty right on with my feelings.. so I want to be getting the right dosages my body needs with out shots.. and I can not travel to my surgeon all the time :( .. plus PCP, grrr.. they would be a big help if they would just do simple blood work.. now anything else thats not wls related, my pcp is on top of.. so frustrated.. am waiting on calls right now.. will see what I can get done and maybe my surgeon can give them a piece of her mind and get them in right direction..lol.. will see how much I get them to do today!

I was gonna suggest having your surgeon call to speak with your PCP.  As far as I am concerned, low anything affects your whole health and your PCP should stay on top of it.  What if your potassium was low and he wouldn't draw it because he wanted your surgeon to do it, and the meantime while you wait you suffer an arrhythmia or something.  The PCP is gonna be held just as liable.  That's what this all comes down to.  Your PCP is afraid of being sued by doing the wrong thing and that's why he wants the surgeon to do it.  Maybe your PCP needs to be educated a little.  For pete's sake, how difficult is it to draw a complete set of labs to see whats going on.  Once the labs are drawn and the results are in, then he can consult ur surgeon before making any sorts of changes if PCP doesn't feel comfortable.

PCP needs to get with the program.  He is treating the whole YOU and that includes the WLS part as well.  If you had diabetes and were referred to and endocrinologist, your PCP would still draw the hgbA1c and then could consult with the endocrinologist.

Hope u get this sorted out.

Tammy, you need to have a b12 level drawn.  Either by pcp or surgeon.  They adjusting supplements based on the lab testing.  I was able to bring the written list of scheduled labs to pcp provider and have wls labs and routine labs drawn at the same time.  Single poke from the lab techs.

How often are you taking the B12 shot?  What dose?  It was suggested by my pcp to wait 6 weeks between shots, levels were in the upper range of normal for me.  Haven't consulted with wls staff for their input on this decision.  I had been taking the shot every 4 weeks.  Nice to be able to do something only once a month instead of daily.  I take several medications on a routine basis and am glad to have one less pill to take, SL or swallowed.  Let us know what you find out.  Hugs

Kathy, I am needing my blood drawn, thats the problem, my pcp does NOT want to do anything thats related to my needs of WLS  they are permitted to do labs and some small things by my surgeon but they wont do it, its ridiculous.. and I cant switch Drs.. I want to really I do.. I do not like my pcp.. but stuck with them til I can approved to another local Dr, and there are names on my list that say they are in my area an no longer here..its so frustrating..  even when I needed my labs done pre op, and the pcp was to order them, he reluctantly did them at last min and was pure pain in butt.

I last had b12 shot in Dec, around the 8th I think, but was early.. I do not remember dose.  I just want to have something in between thats not shot form lol.. but I did find a site online that you can order the shot vials from.. but I do not want to do something to hurt me, I want to be healthy and do all I should and right way.  I so wish my pcp wasnt so illerate to wls and needs..

B-12 needs to be every 4 weeks (28 days). I take a sublingual 2 times a week to supplement between shots, as I notice if I do not I will feel blah after a week or so.

Your PCP indeed needs to be educated on wls! Obviously your pcp is scared to handle it, which indicates to me...doesn't know anything about it. I would have your surgeons office contact your pcp with an exact list of blood tests and levels so maybe they will feel more comfy with it. Your pcp can ALWAYS contact the wls surgeon if he has any questions on any of it, i am sure.

Best of luck gal! keep us posted.
