surgery went well. no complications.  was up and walking within 3-4 hours after getting to my room from recovery.  urine output was low.  had to get a coupled of fluid boluses.  tons of iv electrolyte replacments.  had 4 ivs at one time and all being in use.  they kept blowing and eventually i ended up with jsut one.  i was on iv antibiotics.. flagyl and ancef.  had iv morphine and valium for pain.  the pain wasnt that bad but on tuesday i had went 4 hours without having any then went for the leak test and had to do alot of turning.. by the time i got back morphine was touching crap and had to take the valium, which knocked me out for 4 hours straight. By tuesday night they had swiched me to oral meds.  Walking was pretty easy cept for having to push that darn iv pole.

Home has been ok.  1st LESSON learned: i cannot sleep on the bed, no matter how comfortable i get.  Woke up in excrutiating pain.. pacing and crying.  1st time i had to take the 2ml of morphine.
Pain: for the most part hasnt been bad.  raking the morphine once a day and then started liquid tylenol during the day. seems to be helping.
Sleep: i'm wiped out. napping 3-4 times a day for 2 hours each. then sleeping for 4 hours at night.  trying to cup back on a nap but its hard.  i know that i need to be up more in order to get more fluids in.
Fluids: abut 40 oz in yesterday.  been drinking a little bit more each day
Protein: tried thur.. couldnt tolerate it.  Will try again today.
Walking: 2 nice long walks plus 50 trips to the bathroom
Been gasy and bloated and having losse stools with the gas.  Had that b4 i left the hospital.  surgeon says it is ok and that its my body trying to get rid of the barium.

Fran glad to hear your surgery went well. Sorry about the pain hope it gets better. I am sure  I will be going through the same thing in a couple of weeks.

I am sure it will all be worth it in the end.  Keep, keeping us posted.

Thanx.  Pain is gettin better.  Liquid Extra strength tylenol a few times a day an morphine once so far.  I would recommend buying u some of the liquid tylenol and some Gas-X strips.

The key is to keep moving while in the hospital and when u get home.  Getting in and out of the bed or off the sofa will be painful, but in the end it helps out alot with the pain.

I am hoping to have surgery within the next month. It is nice to hear what to expect even if it isn't all great. I have worried over the past months whether I am making the right decision or not. I am sure now that this is what I need.

I hope your experience continues getting better.

Welcome home Fran!  Don't be surprised if, at some point in time, you think, "What the heck did I do to myself?"  You will be fine, even if it isn't a lot of fun in the beginning.  I'm glad you're home and keep on posting when you feel up to it.

Welcome to the loser's bench!

Welcome back Fran, So glad everything went well and your home doing good. I blew 5 IVs while in Hospital.. boy was I marked up..  I am sorry you cant sleep in bed yet, I found the couch my new bed til about month or so out..even then I was not totally comfortable..but needed to get away from the couch :) Good job on getting in 40 oz of liquids.. keep up the good work and dont force yourself to stay up, its your body healing .. sleep is the way our body takes time for its self.. and the meds are aiding in naps..
Cant wait to see how well you do and, as Collen said.. you will have moments.. I call them phases.. of what did I do to myself.. or other thoughts.. it passes and the moments of delight take over when you see those number drop.. Im so excited for you! ( dont forget to get pics too lol )
