SUrgery is just around the corner
Got a call at work yesterday from the hospital where I am having my surgery. I am the first case, which is kinda what I wanted. But, oh my, I have to be there by 5:30am. sheesh. There goes any hope for me to sleep any. Normally I do not go to sleep til 2-3am. Kinda pointless when I will be getting up at 4am to get ready and leave by 4:30am. Needless to say, after I got off the phone with the hospital, the butterflies started. Up til now I have been ok. Not too nervous. Now that it is closing in, I am beginning to become a bundle of nerves. Not that I am gonna back out of this or anything, or even want to. This is the RIGHT decision for me and my future.
Now I am worried about packing my stuff to take with me. Since I am sure that TEC is gonna have to lug it around while I am in surgery, I better make it light. So far I am taking:
x2-3 pairs of undies, lounge pants, clothes I wear to the hospital (which I will also wear home), ipod touch and the accessories, my cellphone, a paperback book, toothbrush, Vaseline for my lips, face cleansing cloths, feminine wipes and pads.... Am I forgetting anything? as thinking about my laptop, but dont want him to have to worry about that the day of surgery.

All I took was my pillow, laptop, chap stick, toothbrush n paste, slippers and I walked in with a house gown, I got it on my page..and thats what I left in.. and no undies..HAHA.. belly was too swelled from gas and I couldnt bend to try to get em on... heck with undies.. your going to be in pain and on the potty alot.. so less to worry about.. and ask for a pad for under your tush in case they dont give you one.. for little leaks if they happen.. ,, I was drugged and the tv was most I could do..besides walking..and the nurses will help get your stuff to your room.. oh an you will be on ice chips for the 1st day to wet mouth and lips.. they will be DRY! from the tubing and gas and whatever else they stick in you.. I used baby wipes.. and lotion.. cause my feet get so dry and hot and I love it on feet.. Anyways.. dont worry about sleep you will get it when your put under..and then what lil of it your allowed to sleep of.. cause then your butt if getting poked and blood drawn and vitals taken and then its up to walk.. some times you may get a nurse who cares and lets you rest for a bit.... I had a nurse that actually had RNY her self so she was exceptional and helped so much.. Dont forget phone numbers..its like having a baby.. got ppl to call to say your doing fine and all that good stuff.. :)
Also dont forget to take a camera! we want pics! .. ok I want pics. dont know about rest..lol..
I am so excited for you! what a way to start the new year! ..
Praying for you!

WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO!!!! The day is nearly here! Congrats! Don't bring much, most everything i brought never left my overnight bag.
Only thing I can think of you do not have listed here are any meds you are on...just in case the surgeon forgets to order them for you. My surgeon forgot the order for my antidepressants and acid reducers and I was glad i had brought mine.
Ohhhh.. and slippers you will not have to bend over to put on, for the walks and to and from the shower. You will not want to bend!
I never slept a wink the night before my wls, so was glad I was first too. But slept during and after surgery... woke up now and then for antinausea meds and to hit my pain button... then off I was again in lala land.
At the first sign of nausea ask for something.. it will only get worse if you don't, and vomitting after wls is just not pleasant at all!
Keeping you in my heart, thoughts and prayers! You are gonna do great! Can't wait to call you a LOSER! haha!

Lost 114 lbs. working on getting rid of a recent 10 lb regain...and WILL succeed!
Same thing happened to me, Fran... I've been pretty much ok, then I got the call telling my what time to be there (but I DO get to sleep... I don't check in until 10:15, surgery at noon... which is what I wanted, so we can drop my daughter off at school first at 8). Ever since then, I'm starting to get nervous.
I was told not to bring any medications with me, and not to bring any valuables (laptop, ipod, phone) when I go in. They said that if I want those things, someone could bring them to me when I get to the inpatient floor. Things tend to get "lost" when they need to move it from the OR to the recovery room to the room you stay in. I'm taking that advice, and packing a bag but having someone drop it off to me that night.
I think all I'm putting in the bag is pajamas, 3 pairs of undies, laptop, paperback book, iphone, headphones, toothbrush, chapstick, shampoo and conditioner.
Good luck Monday! I know everything will be fine. If you decide to bring your laptop (and we're oth doing ok) maybe I'll see you in chat, otherwise I look forward to hearing from you when we're back home!

Wear comfy clothes that you can also wear home, you will be in the lovely hospital gown asap when you arrive. Wished I had packed slip on slippers, hard to reach my feet with the bloated abdomen after surgery. Chapstick and a pillow to pad the seatbelt and I was good to go. I took other stuff, it never made it out of my overnight bag. If you use a cpap machine, bring that along too. The hospital will provide the needed meds, just bring a list of what you take.
Wishing you the speediest of recoveries. See you on the losing side of surgery. Hugs

I took my laptop and a book and that was it. A lot of people say to take Chapstick but they gave me a tube of lip balm at the hospital, along with those spongey things they give you to suck water from.
I recommend a pair of slippers that are easy to walk in; I hate those sock things they give you and if I had known, I would brought my own pillow.
I had good days and bad days while recuperating but would do it all over again in a heartbeat. I never would have been able to lose 125lbs. on my own.
I didn't see a date in your post but good luck and let us know how you are doing,
Colleen
