5 days pre-op, have a cold

My surgery is scheduled for Monday, and in the past couple of days I've developed a cold.  It was very mild yesterday, but I can tell it's a little worse today.  I'm so afraid that they'll cancel my surgery!  Of course I haven't been able to do any of the typical things: vitamin C, Airborn, juice.  I've been trying to rest (but I'm also getting last minute things done at home, in preparation for surgery), and I've been drinking even more water than usual.

I don't have a fever, yet, and the congestion doesn't seem to be in my chest (but that's usually where it ends up; I get hit hard with chest congestion).

I'm not sure if I should call and tell them so if they do want to cancel they have some notice and can schedule someone else, or if I should just hope for the best and go in anyhow.  I've taken all of my vacation time for this, arranged child care, and everyone at work has really worked hard to figure out how to make it possible for me to be out for so long at such a bad time... most likely, the soonest I could do it if 1/3 doesn't work out would be early July.  Which I *really* don't want!

Hang in there and see what happens with it. If you have no fever, and you aren't in any respiratory struggles over it, chances are they will go ahead with it. Worse thing is if you have a cough, thats tough on the new incisions and can really hurt bad!
I think too that I heard something a while back about a medication that is supposed to help colds pass quicker and be less intense. Maybe you could check with your pcp on this. I believe it is prescription. May be worth checking out.
Hot tea (chai I hear helps colds but google it) and chicken broth can be a good thing, if you are allowed these things.

Wishing you a speedy recovery from this cold and for all togo as planned.
You still have 4 1/2 days maybe it will pass.

Hi Patrece, it hasn't gone away but it hasn't gotten any worse either.  It probably helps that I don't have work this week, and my daughter is out of town, so I'm basically just hanging around the house (plenty of rest!).  It appears that I may dodge the bullet ;-)

Thanks for checking on me!
