Thank you , I will have lots of questions. I do have one though right now how soon after the surgery can I start working out at the gym other then walking? I did ask the surgeon about this and he said he gives no restrictions on this its when I would feel up to it. I was just wondering if its 2, 4, 6 weeks after the surgery that I can begin. I am having the bypass surgery. I would like to start the work outs as soon as I am able in order to start toning as the weight comes off.

If it is laproscopic surgery, it is usually 4 to 6 weeks after... but 6 weeks is a good rule of thumb. You do not want to put too much strain on the new suture lines and cause any problems. At about 2 weeks out (as long as all wounds are closed) you can begin some very gentle water aerobics. Thats when my doc allowed me to begin this, and I did have to modify a bit on some moves, but I really enjoyed it. At about 4 weeks you can probably begin gentle lap swimming. At the 4 week mark you are still healing, so if anything doesn't feel right, feels too uncomfortable stop right away. Toning , and exercise machines should really wait until the 6 week mark. You can use weights when walking (ankle weights and hand weights) at about 2 weeks out, and this will also help alot with toning.. just be very careful to listen to your body, so you do not over do it.
Hope this helps you.

Thank you, Patrece, it helps me very much. I will be back with more questions as they come along. This is a great group, I am glad I found it. It has answered other questions I have as well. And I am sure will be a great motivator in months to come.
