Not going to be a very good day here...

Our dog Crystal, has been suffering for a while with a disorder that there is no way for the vets to treat. She has a condition called mega esophogus, and they also feel pretty sure she has cancer of the lymph nodes. Thes things have resulted in bouts of vomitting for her, labored breathing at times and her losing weight consistantly over the past 5 or 6 months. The odd thing is that she will seem to get better for a week or several days anyhow, then boom.. it is back. Now its to the point that she is just so miserable, and everything is getting worse quickly. So yesterday we made the dreaded call. We are thankful that we have a vet that will come here to our home to put her to sleep, as we want her as comfortable as possible when this happens.

She is our baby. Such a sweet good dog. More like one of our kids than a dog. And I am NOT looking forward to the events of today, but she can't continue to go through so much suffering. This is not going to set the tone for a pleasant holiday, but we cannot wait on this for our own selfishness.

Told my hubby I don't think I want to do this anymore.. no more dogs. Its just too hard when things come down to this.

Thanks for listening (reading) Just had to vent...

Patrece,
I am so sorry to hear about Crystal.  I wish I could wave a magic wand and take away all the pain, both yours and hers.

I will keep you in my prayers.

Thanks Ladies. I so appreciate the love and support. It is over.. it was soooooo difficult. Lots of tears in our home this evening. She was a much loved family member. Only 7 years old. Think I will go to bed early and just allow myself to grieve in private away from hubby for a while before I fall asleep.

Hugs and love,
Patrece

so sorry to hear this.  You are in my thoughts and prayers. pets become a part of your family and you love them just as you would a child.  I know it hurts to lose her but she is not suffering anymore.  I would like to believe that our pets go to heaven as well as we do.  I too had to make that dreaded call about 5 months ago.  My Maltese SAM is now in heaven with my mom.  He was her dog.  It just about killed me having to say goodbye, but no matter how I was suffering, he was not suffering anymore.

Thanks so much Fran! I am so sorry you experienced this recently. I told my husband it comes down to loving enough to NOT be selfish and allow them to be free of the suffering. If I was going through what she was, and it were legal, I'd want the same mercy.

Hugs back at you.
Hope the pre-op diet is gong well...

Thank you so much. We will heal. It was so difficult to watch her suffer, I know it was the right thing. Sometimes doing what is right is the hardest thing of all to do huh?
Sorry for your loss as well.

I put my baby down in September. She was having issues all over the place, peeing on herself, pooing on herself, knocking into things, having these weird seizure attacks where she'd just lay on the floor shaking...  she got to this point where she would hide herself and not eat or drink or do anything but sleep and have the seizures.  I delayed and delayed because I was afraid.  I didn't want to put her to sleep.  But she was suffering and suffering and I regretted not having done it sooner.  Don't worry, you are doing the right thing.  And there is nothing wrong with grieving your baby until maybe one day you're ready.  I too feel that I might never do a pet again, because it hurts too much.
