Question about Recovery Entertainment
OK I have fuond an excellent book I want to read during recovery when i am strong enough and would ilke to buy a few movies. I really want a few romantic comedy tragedy movies but i know thats a BAD idea because of the fluctuating horomones. but i am wondering how bad it'll hit me since I am on bipolar medication. If i could get some evidence in writing that shows i'll be hit just as hard if not worse than other people i could get my shrink to up my meds right before surgery. Maybe i will make a phone call to the psychatrist that saw me and suggested i see him 2 weeks be4 and 2 weeks after surgery. i dont want the post to be about my illness but rather was trying to ask what i could do during recovery when i am not sleeping. i will have btwn 1 and 5 months off to "recover" depending on when i choose to go back to school. If grandma moves in I might go back for summer quarter but if not then not until Septemeber. I have mixed feelings baout either choice. I know if its less time then i wont have as much fun time. I already have a list of things to do and buy like a journal to keep track of changes (i might do mine on the computer, not sure yet), before and after pictures and measurements, etc. I kind of just wanted to bounce some ideas off of people that have been there already since this is a completely new expereince for me and i am more looking forward to it than I am afraid but if my ducks aren't in a row and i have absolutely no control then i would do the next best thing: freak out, LOL
thanks ahead of time for answering all my posts. I appreciate it.

I do not think you will need a increase of medications while in hospital.. the adjustment would likely be a few weeks after.. maybe a month..and it may be to decrease :)
I am knowledgable on the disorder and medications, I have a friend who is bipolar and was on medications and is now down to lil dosages.. not saying it will be the same for you, but do not be surprised if your feeling so much better and more stable with moods..
Entertainment wise.., while in hospital.. TV... lol.. you wont be able to focus on readin.. well maybe the 2nd day.. and the rest of month.. your hormones will swing, but can not say personally if yours will be more severe than others.. you may be sensitive.. yes.. so.. I think maybe stick to comedy and romance.. no tragedy or anything that gives bad thoughts..
I think you will be ready to go back to schoolo before your 5 months out.. you will feel so much better way before that,,
At first coming home from your surgery.. I would have as much support... it will be needed.. I hope your gram comes to help..
I know in the hospital, my husband was the biggest help.. he was there doing more than I expected and I really needed it more than I ever imagined..
I am glad your thinking ahead and asking questions to get your ducks in a row.. :) I hope everything works out for you!

I agree, how your emotions and moods will be can vary greatly from one to another. All usually experience some, as the stored hormaones and chemicals in our fat cells release and we get to experience all of the fun from them roaming ur system again, but with you having already lost what you have, I am thinking this will not be as drastic for you as it can be for some. I experienced very little emotional swings, but with my hubby;'s accident a year before and all of the internal emotional and mental work I did to take control of my feelings, I think it helped. Mostly it was working hard to always find a positive side to any challenge that comes my way. I still try to do this, and I do so much better than before I adopted this new mindset.
Try to have good books, including educational ones that will help you on not only your wls journey, but on a jurney to self improvement all the way around. This s an awesome time to make many other changes we need to make to really emrace and enjoy this journey. Also, if you enjoy crafting of any kind, have supplies on hand. Sounds like a great time to work on your book more too. You will want to work hard at getting in some structured physical activity as well. Start out with small frequent walks, even if just around inside the house, then expand as you are able to. This will be important to long term success. So beginning it as soon as possible is very helpful.
As far as your return to school, do what feels right. You may not know what this will be intil closer to time to make that decision, but you will know what to do when it is time. Listen to your body. Don't pu**** too hard, but always push a little.. thats how we change, but stretching just a bit outside of our comfort zone. Not to the point of being miserable.. but definately a little challenge present. No challenge, no growth. lol.
I am so proud of you and am glad to walk this journey at your side.

Lost 114 lbs. working on getting rid of a recent 10 lb regain...and WILL succeed!
Thank you so much girls! it really helps me! what kind of weight loss surgery books do u reccommend if any? my surgery takes us to the emmi website so i know alot about the procedure and most bariatric recipes i wont eat i have to alter the ones i make for my family. i feel alot better when i ask you all questions. i worry about feeling slike i cant do it because i struggle now but its a good struggle like you mentioned. i am trying to do everything i am supposed to and then some but my "big" stomach gets in the way. i think i am going to buy one of the movies i want thats sappy but undecided right now and unfortunately i have a ton of them on the shelf. i was more asking about the recovery at home but it all really helps!
I just received a wonderful gift from a dear friend who thought I'd need something to keep me entertained during recovery: 4 seasons of "Gilmore Girls" on DVD. I hadn't thought much about how I'd pass the time (I'm back at work in 2 weeks at most, and hopefully less - likely at least working from home some the second week). I know I need new books to read, since I finished my last one a few weeks ago. But lying back and watching tv that is comical, commercial free, and requires little thought is appealing... I'm going to force myself to wait until surgery to start them! Maybe something like that would work for you, a couple of seasons of shows you like?
another good idea for you would be netflix. but yes i am going to buy one season of a show i like for sure. i think. lol. i have a hard time spending any money on myself and my big present is going to be a foodsaver but its for my birthday so i dont think it counts too much. i just feel bad how expensive the shakes, vitamins, foodsaver, deep freezer, etc are. i just don't know! I want to have things to make my life easier but dont know that we can afford "everything" i want. thank you for posting though. I am very tired tonight and actually get to sleep in tomrrow! if i can. i am normally up by 8 am everyday.
