preop depression question and post op recovery question

i know its just me but i am really struggling this month with depression and my bipolar. i am trying to take a step back and do anything to take a deep breath and calm down. i have not been sleeping well and i know thats part of the problem. i just wasnt sure if anyone struggled with the yo yo dieting and depression/stress of all this preop stuff. i am not saying i dont want to do it i am just frustrated because the last thing the nut/dietician told me was to follow this protein diet and it totally screwed me up. im starving and overeating all over again and am so angry at her. plus the stress of HAVING to be equal or under my last weight for my next appointment. i am going back to what i eas eatng before because it worked for me but i need a few days to undo what this lady did to me.

ALSO

my post op question is about recovery. the dr said i only had to have someone with me for a few days after i got out of the hospital. and they said i could take care of my 7 year old, etc. i am really worried about taking care of her. i know a lot of it depends oh gabbys behavior. she is doing great but if she misses any meds she screams at us. it will be during the school term and ryan will be home when she gets out of school so i only have to worry about weekends. i am going to read some of the articles posted by Patrece on here to get a better idea of what i am in for. PLus i had a question about gas X/generic gas X. i hate gas pains and i dont want them so i want to make sure i get what i can have... i have generic gas x gel tabs but i hear u guys say u need the strips?? is it an absortbtion issue?

thanks for listening to me ramble and ask questions and i appreciate any help you can offer me.

First..do what woks for you. If you feel the new diet is messing you up talk to the nut about it.
2nd-I don't have kids, so I didn't have anyone with me at home. I was by myself..
3rd-The strips vs pills is that depending on your surgery (vsg, rny..) you mightnot be able or want to swallow the pills. it's better to have the strips if you think you will need something.  After surgery I was afraid to swallow anything bu****er.

The strips are good due to the decreased absortion, and possibility of your body not being able to break them down before they move on through. There are also liquids available, mylicon is one.

This time of year contributes greatly to depression with many people. thjen add in all you are doing and facing and adjusting to so  you canhave your surgery. It is no wonder you are stressed and a bit depressed. Take one moment at a time, don't allow things to overwhelm you. You can get through this! Maybe your meds need adjusted?

Hang in there lady!

I agree, it's important to talk to your nutritionist.  He/she might have an alternative that works for you.

As far as postop, you're definitely going to need someone there to look after your child, because your'e going to feel like a ton of bricks the first few days back home.  Maybe there's a high schooler or middle schooler who can accept a negotiable rate to come make something to eat (sandwiches), and play with her for a couple of hours a day so you can rest.  Just a thought.

I was fortunate to have my mom and brother in love with the idea of my 3 year old spending a few days with them while I recovered so I could focus on getting better.

in response to both posts. yes my meds need adjusted but i dont see the dr until jan. i am feeling better, going through a therapy book and identifying my feelings, etc. had something major and drastic happen to mil yesterday though...
nut is who got me in the mess with my diet. i am back to my old eating plan and even tho i overate at dinner last night i still dropped 1 lb.
i just wasnt sure how long i needed help with my daughter. i only have to worry about weekends and my husband will be taking the first one off to stay with me or my aunt will be there. i just wasnt sure if at almost 2 weeks out or 1 1/2 weeks out if i would be able to take care of her yet or if i should continue to line up people to watch her on weekends for a few weeks. I for sure am going to see if i can find someone to watch her for one weekend and if things work out with my mil it might be even more helpful.
I am preparing my list now to give me something concrete to look at. what i need to do before surgery, grocery list of stuff to have in the house, and what to pack in my bag. All i really need is my phone and a good set of headphones for entertainment, chap stick, my own pillow and clean underwear basically.
does anyone know of any websites with free samples of protein drinks? i dont like the soy taste and am really worried about drinking anything other than the one i drink now but she insists i must find another one. truthfully i think even if it made me puke i might be stuck with this one. i dont know. does anyone use the unjury unflavored and can u really not taste it??? i am terffied to get a denial so i am not going to buy anything until i get the approval. i feel award even starting my vitamins before then but they requested me start then by janurary.
how long from your last appointment did you get an approval - i know everyone is different, but i wasnt sure how long it takes to gather everything and submit it to the insurance company since its all in your life inways. i am terffied to fall through the holes because some unexpected things came up and i am worried i will miss a step. i am really not sure but i hope that doesnt happen. i will be calling the nurse soon to find out how to jump through these hoops.
i also had a question about gauze and medical tape.  I am amuming they dont give u any in the hospital -- so how much do u need?? or whats good to start with and then buy more if necessary??
thanks, just need answers to clear my head and give me total peace about the situation and me basically being helpful for a few weeks or at least one week. my mil says they will only give my tynol for pain in the hospital but i read that other people wer given good pain pills that knocked them out or made them dizzy. which is true?
and my last question is: who was catherized -- does everyone get it and do they wait til u are on the table to do it or do they do it before (ouch!)??

It's great you are asking these questions, better to ask and then get answers so it helps to relieve some of the anxiety.  It took about two weeks for my approval to go through once the surgeon submitted the paperwork.  My suggestion is to call about a week after the paperwork was submitted and ask your insurance company to confirm they received the information and ask if they need anything from you.  Then I would ask how long do they expect for you to get an answer.  My insurance company told me right over the phone.

I know some companies may send you a sample pack of vitamins but I'm not sure about the shakes. I just went to a store and grabbed one bottle or packet of protein to taste and then went from there. You get used to the taste, I'm not convinced that they are good and nothing anyone can say will convince me otherwise I just suck it up and drink em.  Also, your taste will change after surgery, so I wouldn't buy a giant tub of anything.  Once you are approved for surgery, and when you go to buy your vitamins go for the chewable kind, they will be your friend :)

I had a catheter, and it was placed when I was knocked out when they did that, I'm assuming that is the way it happens at least I hope so!

thank you so much for the heads up! i appreciate your reply! yeah i cant find anywhere where  u dont have to pay for your sample protein shakes. i have a gag reflex so its hard to me to just suck it up. i really like the carnation one but need a backup. i found some i want to try though and am going to make a trip to vitamin shoppe and see if they have any small containers of the lemonaide or peach flavors.

The vitamin shop had some in envelopes you can try. I'm not sure if your surgeon's office has a list of proteins they recommend, you might find that helpful too.  I think the  ready to drink protein shakes are better than the ones you mix, at least those are easier to go down and usually aren't gritty.
