I'm starting the process!

Hi everyone! I am now in the process of getting the surgery. I find out by Tuesday if my insurance covers it but I am pretty sure it does. I am about to go through all my surgery clearance appointments over the next couple of months and meet with the nutritionist. I am nervous about having the surgery but I know it is the right thing for me. I am 21 years old and 5'8 and 290 lbs. My husband is being very supportive and I am looking for as much support as I can find. I'm excited about the weekly chatroom meetings!

If anyone has any advice or tips for this stage of the process I would welcome it!

Hi Katie, welcome to our group! I did not make the chat this evening, as i am recovering from surgery and a trip home after it. I have been in bed most of the day, as the trip home really tuckered me out.
So I want to welcome you officially to the group and offer to be here to help support you through your journey.
The best advice i can give you for this stage, is to just keep jumping...(through the hoops thatis). There will be many requirements of you as the approval and pre-op period go along. I know many insurances, but not all...require a 6 month DR supervised diet or weight loss plan before they will consider approval. Not sure how your will work, but if yours does require this, it really goes by faster than you think it seems like it will. I had to do it. It was worth the investment of my time and efforts, to be where I am today.
The other next best piece of advice I can offer you is to continue to reach out for support whenever you need it, even if it is not directly related to weight loss surgery. All the little bumps in life contribute to all aspects of life..The group is here to help you through.

I wanted to say hi and wish you all the luck! I have to do a 9 month diet and like Patrece said there are so many hoops to go through. I am in month 7 of 9 and am super excited. Advice or tips...? Okay let me think for a minute. Dont weigh daily. I do and it kills my self esteem. U will learn so much but the first thing they had me do was give up my liquid calories. not as hard as i thought it would be. I am 27 and was 370 lbs almost. i am almost down to 300. I wanted to let u know if u wanted to message me or add me as a friend i will gladly do anything i can to help you in your journey and am interested to know what u find out -- coverage and how long your diet if any has to be. Anything else i can say really quick?? it will all seem really hard and u might wonder if these people giving u the orders are crazier than you but take a deep breath and give it all youve got and do what Patrece always says: do the next right thing. slip ups are not optional but don't give up , would be my quote lol
