Newbie in SC - big news twice over
Hi, I'm Sharon in upstate SC.
Today was exciting just to finally get all the appointments scheduled for an RNY on Dec 22 and to pick up my Optifast.
Then I missed a call telling me that I had been cleared for a job & to let them know if I was still interested. !! having been out of work for 2 years, HELL YES I am still interested. It was too late to call the Human resources person back, so I will have all weekend to wonder when I might start.
My surgery and this new job seemed to be linked: I make major milestones in each on the same day.
On November 3rd, my insurance approval came through and I got my surgery date of dec 22. That same afternoon I interviewed for this job and it went exceedingly well. They said they were going to start the paperwork to hire me immediately.
I asked how long that might possibly take and they said 2 weeks - much to my surprise. I said then that they needed to know that I had surgery scheduled for late December and that I would either need to have time off for that, or that I could wait to start until after the first of the year. He said they wanted me immediately and would work with me. !!
The job BTW is as a house/teaching parent at a residential school for children, most likely with up to 8 girls in a cottage.
A new job and WLS at the same time seems daunting, so I went to see the shrink at the bariatric center I am using and talked it thru w/ her. She suggested that I tell them what I am having done - since I wasn't about to be that open in the first interview - and take it from there.
so I assume I will be sitting down with HR on Monday to see what can be worked out.
wish me luck!

WHOOHOOO, sounds like your having everything fall into place! I am very excited for you :)
I would agree they need to know about the type of surgery and recovery.. so they are prepared.. and they really need you so they should be fine with it..
This is definitly a new start for you in more ways than one!

Congratulations to you on both accounts! I am thrilled for you. Hang on for a wild ride through many upcoming awesome changes..
Now.. I am of course going to be the rebel here... I believe it is your right to not disclose exactly what type of surgery you are having. The type is not their concern. If you feel ok with sharing it, go for it, but if not, don't. Just be sure they know how long you need off. Now, it may be possible, that you won't need as long totally off, if you can teach in a room where you can sit down when you need to and stand and move about a bit as you need to. But... just know that you have to take good care of you.
I absolutely wish you the best of luck with both the surgery and the job!!!! I am so excited for you, and proud of your efforts to move forward and become the healthy and happy you, that you deserve to be!
Hugs!
