Ok not sure if I got dilated in July I believe I did because they took the xtra with me drinking the fliud and next day they had me what I assumed getting dilated with this tube and look like a ****ing gun was pretty much out of it. But doctor came back in and said I had a ulcer. So now after leaving ER they wanted me to stay over night (cant have 5 year old) to get me dilated first thing in morning. So will have to call. In a lot of pain even when drinking a few sips of water. Oh did you know that 90 percent of people after having the gastric bypass done they can not excuse me here throw up? Wow just dry heaves what I have had for months lol. I was stubborn the pain started two weeks ago and is now at the point unbearable. Even walking hurts. So the question I am asking is will they try to keep me in hospital over night? Had my surgery in May I can't miss my class's and I have one tomorrow night.

Typically, with being dilated it is done on an outpatient basis. I am assuming this is being done due to developing a stricture?  If this is the case, it should be outpatient and is a fairly easy and simple procedure. It is also not terribly uncommon. Many who have to have this done, may have to do it up to 3 times. It is due to your body healing too well where they joined things back up and producing exces scar tissue.

YESSSS Vomitting is NOT the same after wls by any means. Lots of dry heaves, and sometimes a spit up type vomit. Not a pleasant thing. But if and when you do manage to actually vomit, it is yucky, as the food that comes up is very thick. Blah...

Best of luck with this. I hope this will do the trick and you will have no more troubles with it. Let us know please how everything goes for you.

June,I hope that you have had the procedure by now and are recovering. A simple stricture repair should be outpatient, unless they want you to have IV fluids overnight and allow the dilated esophagus to rest overnight.

Having prolonged pain is not normal, do what you need to fix the problem. Call on a friend to watch your child overnight if needed. Heal quickly, hugs.

Good news not stricture but my peptic ulcer is worse. For some reason it is not the same as last time. So going to quit smoking I drink decaf coffee I hope this resolves my problem I did finally lose another pound. Thank you all for the information. Don't understand how a peptic ulcer can make it feel like food getting stuck from the esophagus to the stomach went from 4 table spoons of food to three to four bites of food.
