Blood Pressure

I got a question..obviously..lol..

is it common for blood pressure to lower after surgery?

My Normal was around 120/80 few difference in numbers- fighting kids made it increase some..lol

In hospital, was about same, yet I got put on meds to lower heart rate..
night  came home, was 80/40, occured soon after taking roxicet- havnt had it since.
then for 2-3 days its at 90/50 steady...

I wasnt concerned til just now.... Is this due to meds in hospital? or a sign of something wrong inside? I feel tired, but thats it. .. Im drinking 50 oz of fluids a day.. trying to get to 64..
OR do I need to move around more? I do admit I been slacking on walking today

My husband been taking my BP- he is a firefighter trained emt

I am looking for some ideas before I call my surgeons office and know what I am talking about..lol.. Thanks!

I replied to the PM you sent. I really do not know about the BP issue. I hope you get ahold of your doc soon about this. You do need to get several small walks in, as this helps prevent clotting and helps move the air out of your system.

PLEASE letme know what you find out on the BP!!!

My blood pressure lowered immediately after surgery.  I had been on blood pressure meds pre-op and still it was around 150/90.  Post op it lowered to 120/60 and it has been around that since.  They took me off of blood pressure meds within a month of surgery and mine is still 110/50 to 120/60 all of the time.

I've heard it is common but I'm certainly no expert.  Just sharing my experience.

Yes, check with pcp about bp meds. Take care if you are feeling lightheaded or dizzy. Even a small amount of loss can resolve any pb issues. Congrats on your success this far. The adventure is just beginning. Happy losing. Hugs

mine dropped, not that low -but dehydration can lower your bp - so keep up the fluids

I went to the PCP, got blood work, I am not dehydrated.. WHOOHOOO,, I am almost to 64 oz a day.. I am amazed at my self.. and my BP was retaken , it was 114/ um dont remember last number but it was up.. and I told them, I just walked in from van then down hall and phew of course it would be a lil up.. so after 30 minutes he took it again, it lowered, but not below 100.. he said it could be from the meds that was in my system running its course and I am ok now, and if it happens again, much further testing.. SO I am relieved! PHEW.. I know I am a worry wart right now.. bare with me :)
