I just had surgery last monday and was told to continue the clear liquid diet for 3 days and upgrade to full liquids.  I don't see any list of full liquids in the handbook so I'm somewhat confused.  I called the doctors office and had to leave a message.  I did speak with the my surgeons sec. and she told me yogurt, skim milk, creamed soup, etc.  I asked about sf pudding and she said no.  but isn't pudding the same consistency as the yogurt? And how about cream of wheat cereal?  I see it on the full liquid diet list.  I'm just a bit gun shy on moving up.  I don't want to make a mistake.  Can some please help me with some ideas.  It's just all so new to me.

Opinions vary on things like yogurt, puddings etc.  Here is some info I looked up::

Examples of Bariatric Full Liquid Diet foods include:

  • Cream soups (blended and strained)
  • Sugar Free Pudding
  • Smooth light yogurt
  • Anything allowed on the clear liquid diet

  • Milk skim or 1%
  • Liquid meal replacements (sugar free)
Some docs even allow cream of wheat and thin (very thin oatmeal) Just be sure you stick with no surgar / sugar free options. Also you can have anything you had on the clear liquid diet.

I hope this helps. I would research more for you, but it is getting late and I am babysitting my 3 1/2 month old grandson :o)

My nutritionist was very particular about telling me that I can't have any "Cream of" soups once I'm on full liquids.  Which stinks because I was hoping to do cream of potato or cream of brocoli as a treat once in a while.

She said I can do one of two things with soup once on full liquids:

-Grab a broth soup from a deli and take the noodles/rice out and put it in the blender and eat that.
-Grab a can of Campbells or similar instant can soup and take the noodles/rice out.  Take a cup of beans (or boiled chicken breast) and put in the blender, blend  with soup, and now you have a very high protein soup, approximately two or three servinds of it.

Hope that helps.  Patrice covered the rest really well.  =)

You asked some very good questions, I would think same about pudding. I got a guide of  mock day meal plan of what to eat for each phase.. I will copy it for you and send it if you would like? Hope you get through to Drs office.
