I recently joined the site. I learned about it through my surgeon's office and thought it would be helpful to be able to speak with people who are going through the journey, thinking about it, or who have already made their goal.
I have a surgery date set for November 16, 2010. I am very nervous about it!! I am planning to have the Sleeve Gastrectomy. I am a very picky eater, and have not yet found a protein shake/powder that isn't un-bearable to me. It would be great to have a support system on here with people who are experiencing the same things, or who have already been through them. My family is a great support, but the dont have the answers to my questions or concerns.
Looking forward to my new life!

Welcome to the group.  My surgeon is also how I found out about this site and I don't know where I would be without this group and the people in it.

Your sense of taste will probably change dramatically after you have surgery; that is typical.  I had stocked up on a bunch of stuff pre-op only to discover that I couldn't stomach any of it post-op.  I had RNY so I don't really know much about the VSG.  I do know that bariatric surgery is the best thing I have ever done for myself.  I wish you much success on your journey.Just keep posting to the group.  I have found a lot of support here and I'm sure you will too.

    WELCOME!
Hi Jodie,
Glad to have you :) .. I am having my surgery this Tues, I am very excited and nervous too. I found OH via local hospital, I love this site. I am still learning and still have tons of reassurance needs as I roll into my date.
Check out GNC stores or nature stores if you have any near by, I tried some samples of protien shakes, vanilla doctored up with some instant coffee and splenda made it bearable. I read alot of online sites and juice protien shots ( drinkable) that many are able to tolerate.
Understand totally about support and need to have those who been through this already or about to be to talk with,m I can sit and read for hours sometimes like a sponge absorbing as much info as I can. I just went a bought my vitamins..so getting ready for the big day.
Jump in anywhere and feel at home here, I already do,everyone is great here..
Congrats on your decision to have a new start in life!
Best wishes

Welcome to our group, Jodie! Congrats on your upcoming ssurgery. Read some of the older posts on here, and you will learn alot of helpful info.

One of the best ways I found to get in protein, for those who have a hard time tolrating it, is to mix a vanilla protein powder with orange crystal light. Tastes similar to an orange creamsicle. Also smoothies, with protein mixed in can help to get the protein in. Some never find a way they truly enjoy the protein, but one way or the other, it mustbe gotten in.

I look forward to traveling your journey with you. Congrats again and welcome!

Welcome to the group Jodie, I too found the site through the literature given out with my surgeon's office.  Loved the support so well that I went through the leader training and return several times a week for more sharing and caring.  If you have access to a local wls group, attend those meetings too.  The more support, the easier this change in lifestyle becomes.

Chat sessions are each monday eve, reminder comes out on monday with the time and shortcut to the chat area.  The time does not change from week to week, we are easy to block into a schedule.  I am at chat at least 3 monday's a month.  Helping lead a local wls support group the other monday.

Do what you can while waiting for surgery to start the changes that will become your new lifestyle.  Exercise, drink more water, eat small bites and slowly.  And most of all, ask any and all questions.  We are willing to share our own experiences with others.  Hugs
