Just starting my journey

Hello!  My name is Lynda and I just joined this group.  I had my RNY surgery on September 14, 2010 with Dr. Teel in Dayton, Ohio.  The 15th was my birthday and I figured the surgery was the best birthday gift I could give myself!

I was mainly an emotional eater and with the termoil in my family, there was always a reason to be emotional.  I was not fat as a child and was rather skinny all through high school, marriage, and two kids up until I was about 35 or so.  Then heredity started catching up with me and I couldn't lose the weight any more.  My kids are teenagers now and I could no longer keep up with their activities or with my husband.  I got tired of sitting on the sidelines!

I was only in the hospital one night and have been doing fairly well since then.  My only problem has been finding "normal" foods that don't upset my new stomach.  So I was on the full liquid post-op diet a little longer than I would have liked.  I made White Chili last weekend and it has gone down just fine; plus it's high in protein!  I started back to work yesterday and so far so good.  It does take extra time and planning to pack everything I'll need for the day though.

I look forward to getting to know all of you and going through this journey together!

Hi Linda!  I know how you feel.  I feel like I can't keep up with my busy three year old.  I am looking forward to being able to run around and chase after him.  Glad your recovery is going well.  There are great bariatric recipes to be found on the internet, but take your time.  There is no point to rushing to normal foods and there is nothing wrong with being careful.

Oh, and Happy Birthday!  Your birthday is my wedding anniversary.  =)

Welcome to the group, Lynda!  Every one is terrific here.  I have found a lot of love and support here and I'm sure you will too.

I also had an extremely difficult time in the beginning, trying to find things that I could eat that didn't upset my stomach.  It takes patience and practice but you will start to learn.  Hang in there and keep posting.

Welcome Lynda! Congrats on joining us on the losers bench! Ask any questions you may have and we'll do our best to help you through.  Also consider joining us Monday evenings for our group chat. There is a reminder sent out each Monday with the link.

Sounds like recovery is going well. As you begin to add back foods, take it slow. It can be hard to kniow what your new pouch will accept at this point, and it can change quickly too, so don't give up on things that do not set well, just wait a few weeks and try again.

Hugs
