Bariatric Buddy
Good Friday morning to all
I hope this finds you all in a better space than I am today. My hubby said something that ticked me off last night and I'm still trying to let go of it. I guess I'll be praying a lot today. In the meantime, laundry, dishes and cleaning the bathroom are the order of the day until I go to the doctor this morning.
Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a pain management doctor that specializes in bariatric patients? I am having a lot of trouble with my neck and my doctor prescribed so much liquid Lortab for me that the insurance company turned him in. He had everything documented and has done nothing unethical but will no longer prescribe pain meds for me. He sent me to a pain management specialist who doesn't like to prescribe pain medication. He wants to stick needles in my neck between the vertebrae and freeze them to see if that takes the pain away. If it does then he would repeat the procedure but cauterize the nerves for a more lasting effect. The procedure is only temporary and would have to be done every 6 months to 2 years. Truthfully, I want the drugs. But we will see what he has to say this morning.
Had a pleasant day yesterday with my BFF Jeanne. We have been like sisters since the third grade. She just moved to a very nice area which is right next to the area of Detroit where everybody is loaded. But we went shopping in the little downtown district and carried our upscale store bags like we actually belonged there. I can't wait; I'm gearing up for my first trip in almost 20 years to Victoria's Secret to purchase something other than the cologne I wear.
What do you guys do to pamper yourselves? I'm way over due for nails and a pedicure, but will get them done regularly once my monthly check starts coming in and I get caught up.
I had a pretty good day yesterday foodwise. The carbs were a little high but all in all I didn't eat much. I also bought some protein bars to try. They had me at, "White Chcolate Macadamia Nut." The sugars are a little on the high side but not out of this world.
Also, when I went to the surgeon on Tuesday, they were featuring a new line of high protein, bariatric friendly bars and snacks. I bought a box of garlic and onion flavored toasted(roasted?) soy nuts. They are pretty good, especially if you are like me and need some crunch now and then. The name of the company is Protisnax. I will look them up online and see what their story is.
Well my appointment with the doctor is fairly early today so best be moving. I hope you all have a great day.
Colleen

Do not let your hubby bring you down Colleen.
Please try what is recommended by the pain specialist. They are always coming up with new and effective things to try. Not every effort works for every patient. Just give it time. Taking less narcotics is in your best interest in the long run. They are habit forming and tolerances develop. You have a lot of life left and do not want to be on the narcotics if possible.
Ummmm onion and garlic, can't go wrong with that combo. Let us know what you find out. I had the last of my quinoa hotdish for lunch. Still a serving of the oatmeal left from the last cooking of quinoa. I prep it with plain water so far, so I can mix it in with my cereal, but cooking it in broth sounds like a great idea too. Thanks

There are many options out there for treatment of pain, other than narcotics. All work well, but not for all people. It is a matter of finding what works well for each individual. I hope they find something very soon that will work great for you. And in all honesty, while it seems the pain meds are best to you, you will build a tolorance, and eventually no amount will ever be enough, not to mention the toxic side effects they have on your body, especially over time.
Wishing you the best of luck in finding pain relief and control that works well for you!
