I have a question for the ladies.. with your surgery did you have any changes in your montly cycle?  I have a spotty cycle due to my Mirena birth control but since surgery I've had my monthly friend off and on for almost 3 weeks now. It will go away for 8 hours or so.. come back for the day.. and it's been off and on like that. Anyone else experience this? Anyone know why this would happen? Did you notice any changes in smell or heavy/lite bleeding?

If you had PCOS at all, as you lose weight, it will improve, but this will absolutely disrupt your cycle. Also remember if you had any procedure other than the band, you are malabsorptive and may not be getting the full dose of your "pill".

About 2 months after my wls, i began having more freques=nt and heavy cycles. Ilet it go on far too long, and it wasn't due to my wls, but because i thought i was, I suffered with this for over 2 years. Finally I couldn't stand it anymore and ended up having to have some surgery. But again, this was NOT due to my wls.

Many do however experience changes after. It will most likely straighten out ofter a month or so. If not.. maybe a follow up with your gyn will be in order.

Teresa, you just had surgery, anesthesia can throw off your cycle, plus the rapid weight loss is releasing hormones that were trapped in the fat cells.  This should resolve in a few months.  Check with your MD if things don't straighten up.  I am closer to menopause, also have PCOS, and hadn't had a regular peroid for months, then for the first few months after surgery my friendly, fiend, showed up every month.  Now at a year out, heading back to the spotty perimenopause stuff again.  I wasn't thrilled to have my cycle again when it happened.  Hope this resolves quickly for you.   Each and every one of us responds differently to anesthesia and hormones.

Welcome to the losing side of surgery.  Things should straighten out soon.  Hugs

Thanks for the info ladies!  I will wait it out a bit longer and if things don't change in the next month I will consult my midwife.  Thanks!

Although my doctor says I'm still "in cycle" I have had two periods in two years.  The last one was about 3 days after surgery.

It's been a long time since I've been on any sort of birth control, but isn't Mirena one of the IUD type things?  I know I've seen the commercial but can't remember.

Anyway, if it doesn't get back under control in a month or two, I would definitely see my OB GYN.  Good luck!
