6 1/2 month update

I had my surgery on 3/3/10. So farf I have lost 125 lbs. !!!! The first month was horrible but it finally got better. I injured my ankle in July and it still has not healed. If anyone has any excersie tips for me please let me know. I still cannot walk for long periods of time and I cannot do standing strenious activity. This is terrible because the excess skin is getting worse. Please help someone!! Other than that, I am doing really well. I can tolerate most everything and I am still losing daily. I have been on solids since my 3rd month and there is nothing I am not allowed to have but I do avoid most of the no no foods. :) I have a taste of some things every now and then but my tastes have really changed. I get knots in my back now since surgery and I get most of my meds that I am unsure of from my bypass doctor. He put me on a muscle relaxer but he said that I can only take it a max of 3 times per week. I still get nausea from time to time but thankfully I can vomit so I have not had to experience dumping syndrome. I have gained an allergy to a couple of medications since the surgery that I was taking daily before so I have had to change some of my meds. I am on 8 meds daily now instead of 18 pre-op. I actually have energy!!! I was in a 5X before surgery and now I am in a L and XL!!! If anyone has any tips or even questions for me I will be glad to help and welcome the advise!!! Take care everyone and good luck to you all!!!

Wow! Congrats on you success. You must feel amazing. To bad about the ankle. Hope it heals soon so you can exercise. The only thing I can suggest is your basic floor exercises. Lunges, sqwats, leg raises etc. Add some free weights, and try 3 sets of 10-12 reps. Pause 10 seconds between sets, and 30 seconds between exercises.  Keeping that pace should add a cardio element to your routine.  That might get you by until you can work out with your ankle.

*Cheers you on from the sidelines*

Congratulations on your incredible weight loss!  Exercise wise, I'd suggest (if you can walk on that poor ankle at all) water work - I love the pool - not swimming, but even just 'walking' laps in a shallow pool does wonders, and I think the Wii has some great exercises you can do without having to use your feet.

*HUGS*!

You are doing awesome!!!!!! Woooo hooooooooooo!!

What type of ankle injury was it? I hope it is better very soon. i too was going to sud=gges****er activities if you can walk enough to get into a pool. Chair and floor exercises. maybe start trying some sit ups, leg lifts and such. you can use hand weights in a chair or on the floor as well. Then there are the good old fashioned "womans pushups" done on the knees rather than toes.

Best of luck to you. keep up the good work

you are such an inspiration to me! i look forward to hearing from you again. what were the 18 meds for? im on quite a few but not that many and most of them probably wont change even after surgery except the cholestoral and diabetes medications. well im off to bed but i wanted to congradulate you. did you do anything special or different? i guess i will be able to have solid foods after a month so i dont know how fast ill loose. i am looking at a spring surgery date.
