My surgery went without complications, however I had a bad reaction to anesthesia and every time I would move or take anything by mouth I would throw up.  They kept me an additional day so I just got home late last night.  My blood oxygen was too low and I had to be on oxygen the whole time and my blood sugar was too high so I had to have insulin injections (I'm not diabetic).  If that wasn't bad enough, the morphine pump didn't touch the pain I was experiencing.  The lortab elixer made me vomit as soon as I took a sip and therefore it was a struggle trying to manage the pain and nausea.  I'm exhausted and could fall asleep right now -- I think i will.  Oh one more thing, I'm 15 lbs. heavier due to all the IV fluids.  Joy!

All the best,

I'm so sorry to hear about all the problems you're having.  But remember that you are only a few days out and you will heal and lose weight and feel terrific.  Nothing lasts forever and you'll be up and about and losing in no time!

Congrats on your sugery! your story is somewhat similar to mine. I was very nauseated but never vomited. Yes the Lortab is nasty nasty! I  had hot pads on me constantly in the hospital and that did help the pain somewhat. The heat was comforting and helped me sleep. I stopped taking the lortab in the hospital due to the taste.. I thought that was part of the reason I was feeling so ill.

I hope you get the rest you need and are feeling better real soon! Take care!

The weight you gain from the fluids they give you in the hospital is terrible!!! I had around 15lbs of fluid also after my surgery. I also had to have two seperate blood transfusions so I was in the hospital for 5 days with my open RNY. I was very misserable for the first few weeks following surgery but it does get better! Welcome to the losers bench and I wish you a speedy recovery!!

Yeah that Lortab was a killer!  I wish someone would have mentioned to expect weight gain in the hospital from all the fluids -- I can handle what I see coming.  Not a huge fan of curve balls.  :)
All the best,

Hey lady. I am so sorry to hear of the struggle you had to face. i hope you are feeling better now with each passing day. Some experience the weight gain and some don't. I came home down 8 lbs. Some come home up 20. But with the gain it is always fluids, and will soon vanish and more along with it as you are losing fat as well. Stay well hydrated and this helps allow your body to get rid of the excess fluids. Hope you are much better very soon!
