Update on my Grandson...
Last evening they determined that his anus is much to narrow, so unless his stools are very soft or loose, he is struggling to pass them, So he has to have it dilated each day twice a day to accomodate allowing the muscles to open fuirther (POOR BABY!)
Today they are considering testing further for another condition that could be contributing to his. Strangely enough it is a condition my first grandchild was born with and had severely right away, but in many babies it is milder.
At 8 days my granddaughter had to have 6 inches of large intestine removed. She had hirshbrungs disease, which is an abscence f cells in part of the lower intestines. These are the cells that sense fecal matter and allow peristalsis tohappen to moveout the feces. She too had to have dilation of her anus for 3 months after her surgery.
So given the family history and the similarities, they may be checking to see if those cells are abscent from the distal end of the intestines in him. We are hoping it is just the anal narrowing tho.
Then to top it off the poor little guy has a terrible cold. The one going around so heavilynow...
He is such a good baby... even through all of this, when he is not hurting, he is smiling at us and cooing. Poor baby boy. Poor momma too. Should know more later today or tomorrow.
Thanks again everyone so much for all the positive thoughts, prayers and your kind support to me.
I spent the evening, night and part of the next day with them at the hosptial. No sleep and exhausted. Came home yesterday afternoon. Had to watch my other 2 grandbabies so my sonand his wife could get my daughters car to her in Denver which is about 2 1/2 hrs each way. I was dying by the time those kids went home,. Today.. tons to do... If you all don't hear back from me for a while, you know why..

I appreciate the positive thoughts and prayers.
They are pretty sure right now that with a chance that was made in his formula and with dilating him he will be good as new soon. He had a milk protein intolorance, so they switched him to a special formula bcause even the soy ones contain the milk proteins. W shall see.

My youngest daughter Maddy has a milk protein intolorance and soy as well along with reflux. so I understand how bad that can be on a baby. Did they put him on Alimentum. it is what my daughter is on. I hope he gets better soon. Prayers to youand your family.
