I'll keep that in mind -- I think that's what all the experts say anyway.  5 small meals is better than 3 bigger meals because it keeps the furnace burning and metabolism high, right?
All the best,

I have red your posts and responses with Patrece.  Busy life for both of you.  Hang in there and do what your surgical team recommends.  The stalls are part of the losing.  We get through them.  Sounds like your boys will keep your busy, nice group of young men.

I had my RNY a year ago and am so thankful that I did this for myself.  I am married (just over 2.5 years) and my hubby and I have 2 small dogs that keep us busy.  I work full time night shift and he is on rotating shifts.  Sometimes we seem like 2 ships passing at the door.  I focus on healthy meals for the both of us, he love carbs and does not understand that they are like poison to my system.

Let's be loser's together, hugs.

Hey Kathy, my hubby is also a carb addict and he has sabotaged my previous weight loss attempts every single time.   We split the load since we have such a busy family so we both cook/shop etc.   This time, I brought him to every doctor's appt, every nutrition meeting, he's ready every document I received, etc.  So now, if he continues to try to give me "wrong" foods, it's completely intentional.  :(  I just pray that he doesn't.  Hopefully, he realizes this time how it could hurt me.

You've done awesome in a year with your weight loss.  I'm looking forward to losing with you!  HUGS!
All the best,

~ Kim ~

Thanks Kim, I do my best to provide healthful foods for my hubby.  We have a compromise, he has his carb cupboard, I do not open it, when he wants/needs to have it replenished, he accompanies me to the store to pick his favs.

I brought him to all the appointments I could, based on his work schedule.  He simply does not get it.  He tries hard to follow my dietary needs, I do my best to keep him imformed on what is on my mind.  I prepare the fruits and veggies that I like, bake and broil protein, if he chooses to not share them with me, his loss.  I stress that I want to have him around for years to come.  I bought him a membership at the local gym that I go to for our anniversary last year, so he could accompany me and see that I enjoy what I am doing.  Walking on side by side treadmills allows us to each walk at our desired pace, his idea of a walk is a stroll, I want to walk fast and built up a sweat.

One day at a time, he tastes one of my protein dishes and suddenly realizes that it was "not too bad".  Heaven help him if he said that he likes the dish.  I know any positive comments mean that he approves.

So one day at a time for each and every one of us.  Loser's unite.  Hugs

I have to say that for the most part, the carby things my hubby, and grandkids enjoy don't bother me much on skipping them. I am to the point, where if I crave sweets, it is in the form of grapes, berries, a banana, pineapple. My body likes these better foods and now when it wants sweets, it asks for the fruits and I give it.

I have my moments that it is hard to eat something different, and so I may be taken in by whatever is being consumed by the group, but I leave out the really bad choices and only have tiny servings of what I do eat that isn't the "best" for me. Usually tho, I just have a chef salad and some cottage cheese and call it YUMMY!

Gotta get out of the "my hubby is sabbotaging my efforts" mindset. While i am certain it is true, you just have to plan to be prepared when he makes unfriendly family meals by having easy healthy alternatives on hand, such as salad fixings, cottage cheese, low fat deli turkey or chicken breast slices, etc. I often will use a leaf of lettuce and wrap some 99% Fat free deli peppered turkey, a slice of cheese, some tomato if its on hand, a touch of salt or reduced fat dressing. Roll it up and its quite satisfying. I often use a letuce leaf to replace what I used to use bread for. I don't miss the bread a bit when I do this. Even a lean beef cheeseburger is yummy wrapped in a lettuce leaf. AND without the bread, you can really taste the other foods in it and I think I actually enjoy it more that way.

I try to keep sme pre-cooked chicken breat meat on hand. when I grill checken breat I grill extra.. slice it or cube it, then freeze in small portions to quickly add it to a chefs salad when i need it. I also try to keep a hardboiled egg or 2 on hand for the same purpose. I often use the juice from an orange (1/2 the orange actually...making sure to eat the pulp for fiber) squeezed onto the salad with a little mrs dash as a dressing.

I am big on easy and quick solutions for meals when things come up that mess up my meal plans.

Sorry, I just saw this post -- I've got my settings to send me an email when I get a response to my posts, but I didn't get the email.  :(

I've got plans for the hubby wrecker LOL -- I've bought some frozen chicken breasts already pre-cooked at Sam's which I can heat up and eat in a pinch.   I've individually frozen some single serving meat so I can have that on nights when he's making hamburger helper, pasta, etc.  Went to Whole Foods this weekend and got a few fresh veggies I can have for my evening meals this week.  I'm trying to brainstorm in advance things I can do to be prepared for when he doesn't think about my cir****tances or intentionally tries to get me to eat something I shouldn't.  It has started already -- for example, he knows I'm doing liquids only all day until dinner until surgery next week.  He still made me a plate of food at lunch time on Saturday -- spaghetti and meatballs.  :(  I didn't eat it and put my liquid diet plan in front of him to refresh his memory.  He got mad and said, "You're never satisfied!"  It's very frustrating and he's not always this bad, but there will be moments like this.  It's hard enough without someone being angry at you for making the RIGHT decisions for yourself.

I can't wait to hear some more of the quick and easy meal ideas when I can eat food again (about 6 weeks from now).  ;)  Thanks!!

All the best,

~ Kim ~

No worries. Sometimes I do not get my notifications either.. frustrating, but I guess thats technology for us.

Keep in mind, that as you go through this pre-op and especially the post op period, your husband may get more emotional. MAY...not definate but possible. Many times our spouses actually feel a bit threatened by us trying to lose weight and get healthy, even if they don't out and out admit or realize it themselves. Sometimes they fear that once we are thin and more attractive, they may lose us, especially if things are a bit on the rocky side already, or if they have a low self esteem.

Best advice I can give for his anger is NOT let it affect you on a deeply personal level.. thats the only time it can harm you, so don't let it get there. Tell him too, I apprciate your consideration in fixing me a plate, but right now I am on this plan and just can't eat like you are used to me eating. Please understand it is nothing personal aimed at you, but I want to succeed in this so I am healthir for myself and you and our children. Maybe he just  needs reassurance?

Won't be long for you now lady!! Woooooo hoooooooo!!!

I think that you're right about the spouse going through their own issues during this time, but honestly, I've been on this plan or the other trying to lose weight almost the entire time we've been together.  He isn't really reacting any differently than every other time I've tried to eat differently from the family.  I've even tried to do all the cooking/shopping so that I can feed the entire family what is healthy and that didn't go over well.  However, he has said many times that he will love me no matter what I look like and he is not the insecure or jealous type at all.  I think he knows that food is a pleasure for me and he does it because he wants to make me happy, but he doesn't really "get it" that food can be a poison to me too.  I go to my support group meeting tomorrow and I'm hoping he is able to go with me.  It's important for me that he understand what's happening as much as I do.

7 more days!!  :)
All the best,
