concernd and confused about getting my surgery now

Ok I know that smoking is a no-no. I myself have been smoke free for about 2 years now but my hubby smokes like a chimney nonstop. will that stop me from getting my surgery? Is it even possible for it to come up in my blood-work. I have been very honest with my surgeon and he knows i don't smoke and he knows my hubby does and how much. He also knows my whole reason for quitting was to prove to my hubby that is wasn't hard { I am kinda a meanie that way, I had to prove a point} LOL. But I was reading that if your blood-work comes back bad from smoking they may not do the surgery. could his smoking really make it so I couldn't get this?    I am freaking out a little bit and almost in tear. . If it does prevent me I will be very mad and hurt.  Thank you all in advance..

Hey lady... Relax. You will be fine. It is not going to be able to show up in your system, at least not enough to indicate you smoke. Also I believe there are components that show up for a smoker as opposed to those who are non smokers.

Your hubby smoking is not going to prevent YOU from getting this done. But you may still consider asking him to be more careful about not smoking in the rooms you spend a lot of time in. Just to be nice and spare you the second hand smoke effects. And if he stears clear of you for at least 3 days prior to the blood work, it probably won't show at all.

Girl.. I dunno how you quit with him right there smoking by you???!!! KUDO's to you. I ended up picking it back up after surgery bcause my husband failed to quit and I am weak in this area. I have tried several times since to quit, to no avail... Still give it a go now and then, and hope to succeed one of these times!

Patrece I literally quit to show him that it could be done. cause he said it was too hard.. and yes it is hard I will say that having a smoker in the house but I know it is better for my kids that I don't.  a special being that my son get bronchitis an pneumonia at least once a year very badly and our new daughter got  it when she was about 2 months old..she was so she that when they gave her a neb it made her feel so good she actually held it to her face herself at the hospital...

I have read posts from others that tested positive for nicotine, having surgery postponed or cancelled.  Elizabeth, is your doc going to do a blood test for nicotine?  Knowing your living situation, and that you have quit, I think that they will take that into consideration.  You could use this as a means to convince your hubby to break the habit.  I wish you luck on this one.

I have been trying go get my hubby to join me in the healthier meals that I need since surgery.  It has been a year since surgery and really no change in his diet preference.  We still have his and hers parts of the fridge.  I do not fear him trying things on the low fat, low carb, lower cal part of the fridge.  In fact, I encourage his sampling the skim milk, fresh fruits and veggies. Encourage is about it, he avoids those things like the plague, lol.  I just stay away from the whole milk and higher carb foods that he prefers.

Bestest of luck on the homefront for both of us.  Hugs

My hubby is trying to eat healthier too and we have all switched to a skim milk. and I am lucky that my kids and hubby all love fresh fruits and veggies... My daughter {the 2 yr old} actually say that I bought some strawberries one night and stayed awake until she ate them all. LOL she love them and my son will steal broccoli off your plate. So I have blessed with kids who like good food.

My fear is is if they do it will never happen cause I know he wont quit just so i can get surgery.

if u are worried about it, talk to your doc about it again. that way he will be reminded and you will be more at ease.  good luck. vick
