Just curious.  I will be on a liquid diet for a month.  I know its important to get the fluids and the protein in.  But how am I gonna get in any calories in?  Anything and everything that is SF has very little calories.  SO what can I expect to have my daily calorie intake at?  Gonna be low I am sure.  But at what point is it too low?  I have heard of restricting your calories during dieting and that if its too low u go into staration mode.  So how long we gonna be in this mode?

Is the liquid diet for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery?

I am not sure what your doc has you using for your liquid diet, but if it is carnation instant breakfast (no sugar added) you still get enough calories between that and the milk you mix it with, especially if you add a scoop of protein to it.  You will likely be having your liquid nutrition several times a day, and if so, this helps assure the body that more food is coming. when you hit starvation mode, you'll know it cuz your weight loss will plateau or stall, but then will pick back up. The daily caloric intake will totally depend upon what your doc has you using to get your nutrition in, so I am afraid thats a hard question for me to answer. Maybe 800 cals a day ish?..? Just not sure.

i am 4 weeks out and theoretically on purees.  but to get my protein in, i stick with my protein drinks so i can easily ascertain that i've made my protein quota.

i have several different protein drinks, and some have more calories than others, esp the stuff that you can mix with LactAid!

i had what i'd call a "mini stall" last week, and increased my caloric intake and tried to "eat" every 2-3 hours so my body didn't think i was totally starving myself.  and sure enough, POOF, the weight started coming off again .

Patrece read my mind, as usual.  The plan set out by your surgical team has proven success.  Do your best to comply and you will be lovin' the results.  Many MD's, many options, each has a fav for success.  There will be the needed calories in your liquid diet.  Rapid weight loss happens after surgery.  Hugs
