Been Lurking around. (hi I'm new)

Yep thats right.  I've been lurking around.   Peeping here and there to see what this site was all about.  I did manage to blog a bit as well.  I posted a few responces and even befriended a friend here.   I am no longer incognito.  I am putting myself out here for support and encouragment.  I will also be doing the same.  Together, we can all do this and we can all learn something from one another.

So Now I am here to introduce myself to all of you.  Here goes...........

Hi I am frances, 34 yrs old, Philadelphia,Pa.  RYN candidate here. 95% sure atleast.   In the past, I have had fleeting thoughts of WLS, but have always pushed them to the back of my mind.  Since becoming diagnosed with HTN in OCT 2009, I have been thinking of it more.  I even lost 22 pounds, only to regain it plus about 20 more.  I realize that I cannot continue on this Yo-Yo weight loss/gain roller coaster.

I am currently in the pre-screening process.  I met with the dietitian and the surgeon.  Pre-screening blood work drawn, awaiting results.  Appts made for the next 2 weeks:  psychologist, cardiac clearance,  pulmonary function test and sleep study (Sept 6).  Possibly a Nov date.  Atleast thats the impression that I got when I had my 1st appt.  The nurse dietician or CNP mentioned that they were booking for Nov and that I still had enough time to get everything done.  Thus the reason why I did not procrastinate to get the pre-screening appts.

Best wishes to everyone in either stages of the process.

Hello Frances,

I am so glad that you are able to join our group and WELCOME !!! You are embarking on such an exciting and amazing journey. I read your message and I am so excited for you. I am close in age to you...I'm 33 yrs old and I live in VIrginia..so not too far from PA .  I was like you and had to have the same pre-screening tests but once I got through them it seemed like the time flew. I hope that you will feel the same way and then Nov will be here before you know it. I wish you all the best and if you have any questions or just want to chat let me know. You can always private message me as well.

Take care and hugs to you!

navytownMOM...  Va...  Hmmm.  Navy yard in Norfolk...  hmmm.  I know the area.  Worked in Sentara Norfolk Hospital for a few years. I lived in a small town right over the Va/NC border.  What a small world.  If in fact you are anywhere near there.  :)

Thank you for your welcome and your kind words.  So far it seems that the time is flying.  It is already Sept.  Have my PFT tomorrow.  Cardiologist and psych apt next week.  Will have pre-screening COMPLETED labor day after my sleep study is over.  then I guess it is a waiting game.  Hope the time will still fly by after all that is done.  If not then Nov will seem like a long way away.  I do have a new Float POOL job position (hopefully).  The orientation for that will keep me busy.

Hello and welcome to the group. I am in the waiting for a approval from my insurance part of everything but at my hospital after they get that I can been in as soon as 2 weeks, so I am just waiting for the call to start my liquid diet. I hope your sleep study goes well.... what are they doing one for. I didn't need one for surgery but I had one years ago for my insomnia.

I talked with you in the chat on Monday and I really enjoyed it....

I wish you the best.

Hi Elizabeth.  It was great to talk in chat on Monday.  I wouldnt have left when i did if it had not been for me having my nephew visiting.  Didnt want him to feel neglected.

I surgeon requires a sleep study to rule out or treat sleep apnea before insurance. Come to think of it, I think that my insurance required it as well.

I think that my MD is booked up til NOV.  But their is always the chance of a cancellation.  But Nov would be better for me bc I may be starting a prn nursing job, which I am required to work 4 shifts a month.  So I  figure if I give them alot of time in sept , october, and do my shifts in the beginning of Nov,  they may be more understanding if I am out in Dec. Then I can always do more in Jan as well.

So are you going to have to go home on blood thinner shots? I will for 3 weeks.  As a nurse, I give them to my patients, but I dont know if I will be able to give them to myself.

Keeping my fingers crossed that you will get a date SOON.  Keep me posted!
