Liquid Diet Started

I started the 7 day liquid diet required by my surgeon two days early.   So far so good.  I can not lie..... it is pretty hard emotionally to deal with, but doable.

I never thought I would looove cottage cheese and oatmeal as much as I have these past two days...giggle.  Its a taste of heaven!   I lost 2lbs in a 24 hour period and have to admit I feel weak and lightheaded.  My sugar spiked up over 200 this am which is a bit of a concern since my surgeon will cancel surgery if the sugar becomes out of control.  I had a feeling this would happen since I have been on virtually NO carbs for 3 months now getting my A1C down under 8 and everything listed on my 7 day liquid diet is filled with carbs.  Feeling a little helpless, but staying positive!

8 days til surgery!!!!!

The next few days will fly by Leona.  Take each day as it comes.  Keep hydrated will help a little with the lightheadedness.  Check with your surgeon or pcp if your sugar levels are getting high.  Medication adjustments may be needed.  The liquid diet is different for each surgeon.  They may need to make adjustments in the carbs for your blood sugar levels.  What is listed on the pre op diet for you?  Are you using the lower sugar forms of the liquids.  Sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles, etc.

Keep up the positive attitude, that will bring you far.  Any other issues rising up at this time.  Pack a lip balm, slip on slippers and a pillow to pad the seatbelt for the trip home from the hospital.  I packed many other things, they never got out of my bag.  Between the sipping, walking and napping there just wasn't time for other things.  I hope to catch up with you at chat on mondays as you are able to join us.  A good time sharing and caring happens during the chat times, and we get in some laughs too.  Hugs

I am indeed using all the sugar free products.  They do still have alot of carb content.  I did wake up to a 123 sugar reading this morning!  Yay.  I received a call from the girls at my surgeons office this am regarding my pre op labs.  Only issue right now is my white blood count is a little elevated which is the norm for me.

Thanks for the advice.  I will add these items to my list of items to pack!

I am going to try and make the support meeting today.  I am still feeling weak, I am now down 4 more lbs.  Im just taking it easy and walking and deep breathing as much as I can.

Yes Lee, there are carbs in lots of things.  Just do your best to keep your numbers for your blood sugar in range.  The support group meetings help.  I go as often as I can to the ones here in my area.  Do you notice that you feel more sleepy/tired when your blood sugar numbers are elevated.  I get that reaction when mine are up.  I feel like someone slipped me a sedative.  Nap time overtaking my body.

Keep up the great attitude.  Hugs

Congrats on your rapidly approaching surgery date! I echo what kathy put.. make sure as much as you are able, that what youtake in is low carb and sugar free if possible. This liquid diet phase is definately not an easy time, but it is so worth it, once you have your surgery and are on the losing end of things.

Cottage cheese is still one of my favorites! I'd have thought I'd be burnt out on it by now, but I'm not, thanfully!

Keep us posted with your progress!
