No blind NG tubes
The other day I read a post from someone who was in ER and even in spite of telling the staff that she could not have an NG (tube into the stomach) placed without special precautions. The tube was placed. She did not suffer from this procedure, but could have had major problems.
As a courtesy to her and as a reminder for all of us. I copied her plea to everyone.
"My surgeon said NO ONE who have ever had any WLS should have a blind NG tube placed in them without being under a XRay machine or a Flora scope. Maybe this could spare someone else all the stress that it caused me and maybe even their life."
Share with others that we need to have special precautions because of the procedure we have had done on our stomachs. Thanks for your time. Getting off my soap box now. Hugs

Absolutely! In my Nutrition class the other day, the RN who spoke before the Dietian said that exact same thing. she knew someone who's pouch was perforated by an NG tube being placed blindly. She recommends we have medical alert bracelet that says
THIS PERSON HAS HAD GASTRIC BYPASS/GASTRIC BANDING
TYLENOL ONLY
DO NOT DISPENSE NSAIDS or ASPIRIN
AVOID NG TUBE INSERTION
They even gave out a business card with this message on it to carry. I am so glad the person you mentioned suffered no ill effects from the procedure.

Grace and peace be with you all.

Lost 114 lbs. working on getting rid of a recent 10 lb regain...and WILL succeed!
Thanks for sharing that Kathy. I would like to take the subject a step farther and strongly recommend that a traditional medical alert bracelet be purchased. I have bracelet with all the pertinent information on it but it is one of the fancy beaded jobs and now I worry that the medics wouldn't recognize that it contains vital information. I do get lots of compliments on it, though! LOL! I am seriously considering getting a necklace as well that is more noticible as a medical alert piece of jewelery.
Also, a quick welcome to grammamarcy. I am frantically waving hello from Lincoln Park!
