My monday adventure

Last evening was my turn to do the presentation for wls support group meeting.  I work with a co-leader Liz.  She has been leading the meetings for a long time, I filled in a couple of times when she was needed elsewhere.  We usually review an article from the most current issue of OH and discuss what comes up during a reading of the article.  I miss out on the chat sessions when we have our local wls meetings.  I will catch up with chat again next monday.

Last evening, I brought alond my CD player and speakers and we listened to a mindful eating meditation.  The speaker on the CD took us through 7 different kinds of hunger as we explored our single craisin that we were goint to eat.  The 7 kinds of hunger explored were: eye, nose, mouth, stomach, cellular, mind and heart hunger.  It took us 8 minutes to explore and eat a single craisin using all of our senses.  I realize that I do not use all of my 5 senses as I eat.  More just eating out of habit than hunger at times.

We also read the article in the most recent OH newsletter by Cathy Wilson on taming the sugar cravings.  Lots of wonderful suggestions to get us to review our relationships with foods.  Thank you Cathy for the article.

Now on to the rest of the week.  What do you have going on?  I am back to my stretch of night shifts starting tonight.  Felt good to have a few days off to renew and refresh for the upcoming week/weekend.  Have a great day everyone.  Hugs

That CD sounds kewl.. where did you get that? Better yet, where can I get that?

Sounds like you all had a great meeting last evening. And I am not supised, with you leading it!

I am glad you took your few days off and kept them for yourself, instead of allowing them to lure you in to work..lol. You have been putting in the hours, I know. I am sure it has been a much needed and well deserved time away from work.

Today I am preparing for my teleclass for this evening. Then planning for a long walk after the class. Tomorrow evening my daughter Candice, I and Braxten are going to go to the YMCA and get in some water activity. I need to get outside and weed my garden, only my tomato plants have grown and filled out so much, it's almost impossible to get t the ground around them. It's a challenge to even find the tomato as they ripen unless they are close to the top.. Crazyyyy... but good!

It i****ting a point where I am about to have more fresh tomato than I know what to do with.. Better than none or too few tho right?? Finally a good tomato year!

Have a great day all!

I wish I had your tomato problem. we tried tomatoes this year and they didn't do well at all. Our green peppers are doing great, however. Maybe you could make salsa. maybe next year we'll have better luck. I know we'll have better dirt. We are going to get some good dirt hauled in! gardening is great exercise. The best part for me is that it's meaningful exercise. I am more motivated if there is some purpose other than just walking around the block or something like that.

Grace and peace be with you all.

Every summer i look forward to my garden fresh tomatoes.  And every year I end up disappointed. This year I did lots of soil ammendment, but to look at the soil, thought it still was no where near enough. I bought way more plants than I needed, in hopes I could keep at least a few going strong...and bhammm They exploded! Never experienced anything like it..lol.

Colorado is such a hard place to try to grow tomatoes. The soil is so poor and hard and they just do not do well. But now I am thinking next year, I am going to only plan 3 or 4 plants again and hope for the results I got this year. Definately have to space them out more..lol

Get some steer manure to work into the soil this fall then it has all winter to decompose and fertilize the soil. Best of luck!

Hi Amalia, a craisin (I spelled it wrong the first time) is a dried cranberry, that looks similar to a raisin, only a different fruit.  Similar in size to a raisin too.  I use them in cooking and they taste good just as they are.  Only need a few to get the taste buds a working.

According to the book I am reading, by Jan Chozen Bays, MD.  The 7 different kinds of hunger have to do with the 5 senses and a couple that I am having a harder time wrapping my mind around.

Eye hunger - the look, color, shape, surface texture of a food, how does it appeal to your sense of sight.

Nose hunger - the smell, odor of the food, how appealing to your sense of smell.

Mouth hunger - investigating a food with your mouth and tongue, but not biting the food initially, just rolling it about with your tongue.  Then biting the food once, checking on the taste and appeal of the taste.

Stomach hunger - swallow the food, notice the changes in the mouth in texture and taste.  Notice any bits that reman in the mouth.  What does your tongue to with it when you are finished eating.  How long can you detect the flavor?  Rate your stomach, is it full or not, satisfied or not?  How much does the stomach want more of this food?

Cellular hunger - become aware of theis food passing into the body, absorbing.  Are there any sensations that tell you that this food is being absorbed?  How is it being received by the cells of the body?

I had the hardest time trying to decide what my cells if anything, they were trying to tell me.

Mind hunger - Can you hear what the mind is saying about this food?  (Often the mind talks in "shoulds" or "should nots.")  How much would the mind like to have more of the food?

Heart hunger - is the heart saying anything about this food?  Soothing or comforting?  Would the heart like you to have more of this food?

Heart hunger gets me to thinging of soothing myself with food, even when I am not hungry.  I am a pro at this, have been doing it for a lifetime, that is soothing with food.

Hope this helps.  I am still working on reading the first few chapters of the book, I may have a much better grasp after completing the book.
