Congrats on your upcoming surgery! Even tho you are your surgeons first procedure.. I am sure he will have someone with experience at his side.
You will be offered pain meds to help you through the initial phase. Most times after surgery you will either have a pain pump that you can push the button on to get meds when you need them, or they will give you IV meds. Yes there is some pain, and definately discomfort, but once you get through the day of surgery, you may be suprised. It may not be as painful as you anticipate. Be sure to get in as many little walks as you can. It helps prevent clots, and move the air out of you from the surgery. Sip sip sip! rest as your body requests. This is when we do most of our healing.

The pain was minimal, meds took care of it. I was using only tylenol by 10 days to 2 weeks out from surgery. Do get up for frequent short walks as soon as possible after surgery. Pack your lip balm, slip on slippers and a pillow to pad the seat belt for the trip home. Sip, sip, rest, walk, repeat endlessly. Hugs
