Wow, another chapter in the lives of our friends here at OH who are scheduled for surgery this week.  Let's take a moment today to wish everyone all the best during and after surgery.  Some are having initial surgery, revisions or plastic surgery.  One way that we can show our support for others is to share notes back and forth.  I try to keep up on the latest and greatest for the friends I have here on OH.  Please feel free to add anyone else that you know to the thread.      During the week of August 16th to the 20th we welcome the following to the loser’s bench:  readytosoar, kap2kam, booboobears_angel,  Donnaie W., blackbeltmom2010, breezy30, dorothy53,     Congrats the time for your surgery is approaching.  I am keeping each of you in my thoughts and prayers.  Praying for a calm, planned surgical process, speedy, smooth recovery and that you are feeling up to posting to share of your experience after you recover.  Come to the bariatric buddy group page and post a note when you are able.  Hugs, Kathy

Hi! Thanks for the little welcome message. I'm going for surgery next week. So happy a woman at the support group meeting I attended last Tuesday recommended the OH site! Can't wait to get to know some of you and go through this with people who have "been there". Glad I found this discussion group.

You are welcome Janelle, which surgery are you going to get?

Any questions/issues we can help with?  Looking forward to getting to know you better too.  The board can get quiet at times, just step forward and post away.  Try to catch chat sessions on monday evenings.  Reminder is posted earlier on monday with the shortcut to chat area.  Always room for more positive support for everyone.  Hugs

I am getting the RNY. The Dr. who is doing it does something called a mini incision. apparently it's not laproscopic and not  a big open wound either. Have you heard of this before? He has done 2500 bariatric surgeries over many years.. I used the "Find
a surgeon" site to see  what anyone might have to say about him.He was on it with over 100 testimonials.. Most were very complimentary. Also I saw a woman write on a dicussion board that she was on clear liquids for 10 days. My Surgeon only requires 2 days of clear liquids. Why so different,do you think? Does any one have trouble with having Nausea from the anesthesia? I have lots of questions but will just start with these. Thanks for any insight you can give me!

Grace and peace be with you all.

CONGRATS!!! I know me I did have a lot of nausea after the surgery.. But I usually do with anesthesia. I did "vomit" the reason I put it like that is since my surgery I don't really vomit its more like spitting up now.. When I was doing this i did dry heave or how ever u spell it. lol. SO there was a bit of discomfort but I really wouldn't say pain. (just apply pressure where u can to hold it in)- makes for less pain. IN my case I held my sides.. I also slept a ton that day. BUT again I am always that way with surgery. As for the incision type you are refering to. HONESTLY I never heard of it but then again there are many things I have not, besides my own procedure. (RNY Laproscopic) It;s good you are looking for the testimonials and most are good that gives you a bit of peace I am sure. DO y0u have a date yet? I am not on here as much as I'd like to be, so if im skin questions you already answered or whatever I apoligize. LOL. My newborn son and life lately keeps me very very busy. :P Hope you are doing well and sorry I don't have all of your answers but I wish you the best of luck and always feel free to message me if you like if you have questions or concerns Take care!

Thanks so much for the input! YOur baby is adorable!!!! I have heard of a couple of people who were infertile before WLS who are now proud Mamas. Don't know if you had this problem prior to surgery or not, but I do know one thing.... you are going to need all that new found energy to keep up from here on out! So happy for you, he looks healthy and like he has a good disposition. Honestly one of the cutest baby pictures I have ever seen!  Congrats to you!

Grace and peace be with you all.

Hey Janelle, never heard of doing RNY with a mini incision, but it also does not surprise me.  They keep coming up with new ways to do things.

Each and every surgeon has a different and successful way of accomplishing his/her goal.  Some do 1-3 weeks of liquids before surgery to help shrink the fatty liver to make the procedure easier.  Some do no liquid before and do a bowel prep.  All methods work.  I needed to do 3 weeks of liquid diet before surgery due to my bmi being over 50, those my surgeon does with bmi below 50 do 2 weeks.  I did not know if I could accomplish this at some points.  When actually doing the liquids, it was not that bad.  I kept myself busy to fill the time.

I did not have bad nausea or other complications, other than a bout of constipation a couple of weeks out from surgery.  Come to chat tomorrow eve if you can for lots of input.  Keep asking lots of questions, get all the info you want/need.  Hugs

This type of incision your talking about is a newer "miminally invasive procedure". not many surgeons do it yet.. It offers an easier recovery for sure!

Anesthesia is noted for making people nauseated. Don't worry too much as they will have a standing order on hand most surely, to give it if you need it. I did have post op nausea, and "vomitted" (like my daughter Candi said...more of a "wish I could vomit" spitting up type thing with dry heaves. If I had requested something for the nausea as soon as it hit, I would have spared myself some misery). Moral of the sotry.. ask for something the second you feel nausea coming on. They will give the med IV and it will work quickly.

Congrats to you! You must be so very excited!
