6-Month Follow-Up and more...
Went for my 6-month check today, and everything went well. Preliminary labs look great - not anemic, protein is good, calcium is minimally elevated. I've lost 109 lbs, and doc is pleased.
I'm not happy with what he said though. He claims that the surgery is considered a success if you lose "70% of your excess weight", which is EXACTLY where I am. His goal is to reach that mark within a year, and I made it in 6 months. He said that I'd probably drop a few more lbs, but then rebound and maintain about where I am. No! I am NOT satisfied with that. I've made tremendous progress, I feel and look 1,000 times better, but I want more. I want to maintain about 20 lbs less than where I am! That would put me in the 170 - 175 range. I think that's very reasonable!
So I guess this will be a challenge for me. I told him how I felt, and he shrugged and said "Prove me wrong".
On the flip side, I will be a grandma ANY DAY now! So excited I can hardly stand it... :)

Yes indeed Darlene, you can and will prove him wrong. Sometimes challenge is what we need. Congratulations on your success to this point. Kudos to you Darlene.
So wonderful to be a grandma soon. Hope things go well with the delivery and you get to bond with the little one soon. Hugs

You have done a WONDERFUL job Darlene and I can only aspire to get to where you are at.
Don't worry about what your doc said, my own doc said that I will lose only 20kg with the VSG. I refused to believe him, thank goodness. Doctors tend to be conservative to stay on the safe side. You can do it, I know it!

Darlene.. First.. congrats on the soon to arrive Grandbaby! I know how exciting this is... I now have 3 of those bundles of joy!
Second.. You surgeon is right when he says most lose 70%... But most do take a full year to reach that, if not a tad longer. You still have 6 months to a year of losing ahead of you, just as a benefit of the surgery. AND if you continue to repect your tool and the rules you won't have to worry about regain, other than maybe a 5 to 10 lb amount after your loss stabilizes. But just think with up to a whole year ahead of you to have your tool work for you, you are going to surpass that 70% which you have already achieved! Do not give it a second thought. You will do this. Just stay with the program and respect your tool. As long as you exercise and eat right, you will stay at a healthy weight once you get where you need to be.
The weight will come off slower now, but it will, and you are doing awesome!
To be honest, I only had a need to lose from 270 to 154 to be at a normal BMI. (a normal BMI means 100% of excess body weight gone). I am at 151, and it took me 1 2/3 years to hit that normal BMI. The less you have to lose the slower the loss. But I did it, and just in the last 2 weeks have lost 3 lbs of that.
