I have been doing the work at home job for about 6 months now and loving it .. I had to go to a different hospital after the 1st denial from the insurance.  I had to do 3 dietician visits at the new hospital, they wanted to make sure that i had at least 6 months worth of dietary supervision so that it would get thru the insurance.  I have the appointment with the surgeon tomorrow.  I have been looking into the protein supplements that are paid for by insurances and does anyone have any opinion on them .. i plan to ask for prescriptions for all the vitamins and the protien supplement from the surgeon tomorrow .. i figure if i get a supplement that is 30ml per dose it should be easier to get down after the surgery rather than getting the 8-10 oz shakes in . altho they do pay for the shakes as well .. any opinions would be great.

Hi Jenn! Great to hear from you! What kind of work from home job are you doing? Glad you are loving it!

I am not sure, but your insurance company may only cover certain brands of supplements and vitamins... kind of like they are with prescriptions... you may want to ask them what is and is not covered. Keep in mind when getting your protein, that we can onoy absorb about 21 to 24 grams of protein per sitting. So to go with a higher protein content, is just not effective for us.

I personally like unjury protein. www.unjury.com
and I use Building Blocks Bariatric vitamins www.bbvitamins.com  (these guys will send you free samples if you ask)

So glad to hear things are moving forward for you! Congratulations! Please keep us posted!

Actually I am taking camping reservations for a company called reserve america .. I have learned five of the contracts that they do,  they actually have about 16 or 17 contracts for camping across the US.

I actually downloaded and printed the enteral formulas that are covered by Medicaid in NY and I also printed out the nys medicaid program enteral formula prior authorization form to bring with me to my appt with the surgeon tomorrow.  I also have a list of the vitamins that I will need that i know that Medicaid will cover.  I figure have everything ready for him.  I guess it won't hurt to have those things printed and ready for him to use .. wonder if anyone else has shown up at the appt with something like this.  Oh, well.  I will be.  I know that unjury is not on the list of covered formulas ... but boost glucose control, glucerna shake are on the list.  I am concerned about being able to drink the whole 8 to 10 oz in the shakes.  there are a few protein concentrates that are on the list, on is prostat 64 that has no carbs and 15 g protein/oz and proteinex that also is a 1 oz serving.  this way i can mix it with a smaller amount until i am able to take more in at a time.  Its a thought.  Anyway.  I already had a nicotine blood screen a few months ago and also the ultrasound of my gallbladder.  I never received the results of the ultrasound so i will probably get that information tommorrow ...
I have requested a few samples and picked up one or two diff kinds of protein shakes that were covered by my food stamps so i am doing a bit of taste testing.  in the past i have usually discovered that the chocolate flavors are usually better than most.  I know that prostat 64 actually comes in a butter pecan flavor so i think that would be interesting ...LOL .

Have a wonderful day ..   i think i will go get some more sleep .. my appt is in less than 8 hours ..

Wow Jenn, the long wait is nearly over and you will be on the losing side of surgery. Congrats on finding work, I recall you were struggling with that a few months ago. So coooooool.

By all means come to your appointment prepared with what you think will help you best. I arrive with a list most of the time too. It helps me to remember any questions or issues I want answers to. Hugs

Hi ..
I got my appointment date for the surgery ..  10/6/10

found out that medicaid won't cover those formmulas for after surgery care so i will have to use the food stamps for getting the protein shakes ..

now i am doing the serious taste testing as to which ones i can stand .. in the past when i have done some sort of vitamin shake i have found that the chocolate flavor covers up any tastes associated with vitamin type things .. any other suggestions ??
