Post-Op Check-In

Hi Everyone,

Just letting you know that I made it through just fine. I was in ICU the first night since they had to take down the Lap Nissen and convert to the RNY. They took out the stomach vs letting it lie dormant becasue they didn't think it looked like it had good blood flow from the Nissen and I don't need it anyway. Was up ripping and roaring the halls in hours, I did so well, they even thought about sending me home the next day, but the surgeon wanted me another day, and that was ok. Went to full liquid diet on day 2, no problems. Anything sweet I have a hard time with, tooo sweet, but Peach Yoplait Light yogurt, taste SOO good to me. Funny, I hate yogurt. I can only hold about an ounce at a time, working on the water intake. Yesterday I was VERY sore on my left side without the pain ball in (now I know it's purpose) but had an awesome nights sleep, woke up feeling wonderful and full of energy (which I didn't think I was suppose to have). Got shower, cleaned the kitchen, made me a protein shake and got my yogurt and I am now sitting here feeling like I have never had surgery. Oh and I am down almost 9 lbs already. BEST decision I have made!!! I have been in touch with two other ladies from OH that had surgeries on the same day, they are both doing ok too..Hubby comes home from Iraq Tuesday YIPPEE!!

Thanks for the update Leslie.  Good your hubby is home for your support.  Take it easy when you have this burst of energy after surgery, your body still needs time to heal.  Do your best in getting in the fluids and supplements/protein.   Congrats on the weight loss so far.  Hugs

Thanks everyone!! Still feeling great, but I have had ten abdominal surgeries and I know what works and what does't to get me going again. That has been a big plus for me with this...I am down 10 lbs, swelling is starting to go down. I am doing well on getting the water in, but then I do love my water. Protein is another story, I am really low on that. I have a friend running to the store now to get me some Sugar Free Carnation Instand Breakfast. I cannot stomach the other at all. I have unflavored protein that I can add to soups, broths and such. The only thing I can't so is the protein drink. I think I will figure it out though.
