Burst Ulcer...what shouldn't I eat right now??

Hi all,
Well this has truly been a week from hell with nothing but bad(ish) news... last night I had an extreme pain in my abdomin and seconds later I was throwing up fresh, bright red blood with clots in it... 911 was called and I went to the E.R.. while there I needed to use the restroom and my stool was nothing but blood... still is today:(... anyways they did an endoscopy on me and found that I had a burst ulcer... they sent me home but didn't give me any instructions on what to eat and what not to eat so I am wondering if you all know any thing.. are there things I should avoid right now???

Thanks for the help

Hugs

OMG Davina, what a week you've had! How long will it take for this to heal. Sorry I don't know anything about this. Will watch for information. Hope you get answers. Didn't they tell you to follow up with your primary?

No they didn't tell me anything other than to take the medicine they gave me. I called Dr.Ross my surgeon and his nurse told me to also keep taking the Carafate I already had.. other than that she said I could eat anything I have already been eating, except for greasy, fried, and spicy foods which I don't eat anyways...I don't know how long it will take to heal but I am afraid to do anything:( I have no clue what is going on with me this week but I am hoping for better weeks ahead.

Thanks for your response Anna

An ulcer means that the surface cells have been lost; causing a break in the stomach lining that steadily deepens. It may burrow into an artery in the wall of the stomach. It can burrow right through the stomach wall to burst into the tummy cavity.

The ulcer may scar up, causing the upper end of the stomach to narrow. This makes swallowing difficult. It can narrow the lower end of the stomach, causing vomiting.

The answer to a stomach ulcer that has burst is Gastrectomy Surgery.

(((((Hugs Davina)))))))) Just do your best to get in the fluids and protein as ordered by your MD.  The carafate will help with the pain and healing.  I wish I had lots of answers for you.  Wishing you rapid healing of your ulcer.  Hugs

Aw honey.. sooo sorry to hear this! I will pray for a rapid healing!
Just as a side note...not saying you do any of this....
smoking, caffiene, and high acid foods can contribute to this. so if any of these are present in your life, it will serve you well.
I hope you are better very soon! Please keep us posted!
