Dumping Syndrome

Alrighty - I hear about this ALL the time and I went to go look for it on this site and could never find anything on it.  I asked my neighbor what it was as she had the surgery 18 months ago and she had no clue.  I think I know what it means, but not sure!

Can someone explain dumping syndrome to me pretty please?

Thank you!  :o)

DUH!   All I had to do was google it.  Sometimes I make things harder!  LOLOLOLOLOL!!

Okay, so this is not a totally wasted thread...  How do you avoid it?  Eat very slowly and chew A LOT?  or is it something beyond your control?  How often did you all experience it?

Glad you found out what it is. I will sum up how it feels..."MISERABLE". It can be exoperienced at different degrees, depending on what triggered it and how much of it you ate.

SUGAR causes dumping. White sugar, sugary foods and snacks, sweets. Occassionally you will find a food that your body does not agree with that will cause it, but usually there are hidden sugars in there somewhere. My first dumping episode was caused by chinese food...UGHHHH... i was so miserable and even thought I might just die..lol.

Fatty foods can also cause a good dumping episode. So limit fat intake, and keep all meats as absolutely lean as possible.

Stick with shopping the perimeter of the store for the most part. This is where healthier and natural foods are like produce, meat, dairy, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc.Eat everything you can in its most natural state. Processed foods are hugely high in sodium, sweetners, carbs and often fats. and have been stripped of most nutrition. Then they add the nutrients back artifically. If you find processed foods tooting their horn that they are low fat...beware, they probably added a billion carbs to make up for lost taste.

Hope this helps.

Yup, what Patrece wrote.  No fun, try to avoid it at all costs.    Wish I had more wisdom to add.  Just follow your MD's instructions and dumping should be minimized.  Hugs
