Holy cow, I didn't think it would be this tough.

I'm wondering if I really am this hungry, or thinking I am just this hungry because I can't have a snack whenever I want it.

Any helpful suggestions to get me through 2 weeks of this pre-op diet.
So far it's prayers and jell-o. (And it's only day 1)

Thanks

Hey jeanine! Good to hear from you. I think the first few days are the hardest. When we have to make a sudden change in ur diet like this, I think it tends to keep "food" at the top of our thoughts.

Try to find activities such as walking, crafting, reading, a nice hot soak in the tub..or a cool soak if you prefer, anything to distract your thoughts from food.  Try sugar free popsicles too. they too count as liquids.

I hope they are allowing you more than just jello!

Yes, I get decaf coffee in the a.m. then for brunch a protein shake (banana ones are yummy), then it's jello and sugar free popsicles until dinner along with water, crystal lights, SoBe zero. Dinner is 4 ounces of lean meat and 1 cup of vegetables. Then after my daily walk I have about 8 ounces of chicken broth, and jello or a popsicle before bed.

I think you are right.... I just have to get used to eating way smaller portions.
One day down, 13 to go then it's surgery time.
Thanks for responding. You made my evening.

Maybe having more broth during the day would help? Are you only allowed one protein shake per day? If you are allowed more, an extra one may help too.

You are very welcome for the reply. Please check back in and let me know how its going for you ok? I am here to encourage you all the way!
I know this is a hard adjustment, but just think of how awesome the reward is going to be!

Good Morning.... no only one protein shake per day. I'll try more broth today, see if that helps. Thanks.

It is getting better, but I sooooooo miss my eggs in the morning.  Yesterday I didn't need a whole bowl of sugar free Jello an hour after dinner, just a serving. I've lost 4 pounds in 2 days.

I am thankful it is summer, since I'm not that hungry when it gets really hot. Not like I would be in the winter. 2 days down, 12 to go until surgery, and my brain and heart know that it's going to be all worth it - I just wish my brain and my heart would convince my stomach.

This is a hard adjustment, but if I would have eaten a little more along these lines for the last 20 years, I wouldn't be the size I am. My kids feel sorry for me, and that's not what I want. I did this to myself, no one else did it to me.  I just hope they really see what I am going through, and remember it when they get older and have to make food choices when I'm not around.

I am taking Tylenol for the headaches. Someone told me it's a lack-of-food headache. They can be pretty nasty, but Tylenol helps a little.
Have a great day.

Hang in there Jeannine, you are a strong woman and willlllllll get through this.  Distraction works well, just find the right distractions.  Great that you came to share.  One day at a time, one hour at a time, one minute if needed.

Alternate flavors and temperatures of your liquids for variety if this helps.  I made wonderful use of sugar free popsicles when I just wanted to chew on something.  Still do use the popsicles when I have had enough and my mouth still wants to chew.

That's what I keep telling myself. I am strong, I am strong, but when I'm feeding the kids, or even the dog for that matter........... all the food smells wonderful. I never thought I'd like the smell of dog food. LOL Something is serioulsy wrong with me. LOL

I started my pre-op diet on Friday, and it is day 6 of a 14 day diet. I average about 600 calories a day, and needless to say I am so hungry.

I know, I know it will all be worth it. Distractions work well. The house is clean! The scrapbooks are almost  updated!  The lawn is taken care of, weeded and mowed!  My movies that I had planned to watch are all watched!  I'm on my 11th book in only 6 days.
Plus, as I hate to admit it........... I am a total crab (more like a ***** but I don't like to swear).

I have lost 10 pounds in 5 days on this diet. I got on the scale this morning thinking I'd loose another pound or two, but I gained a pound since yesterday - how can that be? on 600 - 700 calories a day............ to gain weight? I'm baffled.
Well, it's time for my protein shake..... strawberry today.

Thanks for all the support - it really does mean a lot.
Jeannine
