about a week ago i started doing a walking tape everyday. but its more than walking, weights or fast blasting, or regular walking bumped up some. i didnt want to do it today and then said i had better and my neck was hurting when i was using the weights. hubby said id better do the 4 days a week the hospital said and no more. but i know me and i wont exercise at all if i dont do it everyday. any tips? its too hot to just walk outside. weight is fluctuating btwn 12 and 8 lbs lost. im still excited though. its an amazing accomplishment for one week and a few days.

have you tried a dvd that you can do inside? I also bought a WII to use when I don't feel like going out..etc.

I am not sure how far you are out from surgery, but if you are cleared for it, swim aerobics is awesome!  BUT make sure it's ok with your doc first.

My post-op instructions from the start was to do 30 minutes of some type of activity -- preferably walking at first -- every day.  The 30 minutes can be broken down into two 15 minutes or three 10 minute sections if necessary.  Maybe just walking without the weights would be okay?  Listen to your body but moving, gently if necessary, is good.

im still preop. but i was told to exercise at least 10 minutes 4-5 times a week. but maybe the weights were too much. i know shes starting small because i wasnt active AT ALL before. but hubby put my dvd away because i almost got hurt. i lost 2 lbs yesterday. its fluctating btwn 8-12 lbs loss. i cant get over 12 yet. the exercise makes me feel soooo good. i dont know why. i was thinking of doing my 15 minute dvd plus 5-10 min stretching then another time doing my 6 minute workout dvd. hubby says i am not being healthy and i dont know what im doing. i am just exercising and eating right. and being happy, etc. how can that not be healthy? my weights are 5 lbs which i think might be too much since i was completely sedentary a week and a half ago.

Do you have access to a swimming pool?  If so, go swim.  If you can't swim, then water jog or walk back and forth.  I think water work outs are on of the best exercises for you!  You use more muscles, you get a cardio work out and it's easy on the joints.

I would say your neck is hurting from the weights. Try doing this without using the weights. I believe you know yourself better than anyone, and if you know you will not stick with it if you do not do it daily... then DO IT daily. Just try not to over do, and as for how much, hard to say we are all at different abilities, so just listen to your body. Try upping it a tad after each week...but not too much.
Great job on the weight reduction! Sooo proud of you! Keep up the good work!

There are some great walking DVDs that you can do in your home from Leslie Sansone called walk away the pounds.  They come in 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 miles.  I love them for when I cant walk outside.  They are very easy and you do not need allot of room in your home.  It is a quick fix for the "cant go outside" days.  I hope this helps.  OH and I cant see a DR getting mad because you are walking or exercising more than 4 days a week.

thanks i will have to show my husband the posts. i am taking today off i guess. i have leslies workouts up to 3 miles. i found blast away the pounds though, 1 mile workouts, and LOVE it. i was surprised i could even do it, but i can. no access to a pool though. yup everything helps. i think i will talk to him about dropping the weights out of my workout for now.

Patrece - thank you sooo much. I am so excited to watch the numbers on the scale go down. i feel so much better about everything. i wonder how much i can loose on my own, but i will ride out this journey and be positive and see what happens. if i loose it all on my own i will have my faith restored in healthiness, and if not, then i know i have the tool to make the changes and be healthy in the long term even though i am making changes every week. i am eating my meals off a salad plate now. i love it. and trying to chew alot, or take at least 15 minutes to eat. next i need to not drink at meals.

Yayyy for you Sara.  Take the workout without the weights for the time being.  Build up endurance and then think about adding in the weights.  Just being up and moving about is good.

Congrats on switching to the salad size plate.  Fools the eyes into thinking you are having more, the plate is still full, the portions are smaller due to the plate size.  Take things one day at a time.  We are here to share the adventure.  And it really is an adventure.  Hugs
