a meal idea for those pre- op
and maybe it will work for those who are quite a ways from surgery.
I am a member at Costco, I sure you can get this stuff anywhere, but I get this stuff from there. But for the last week, I've been eating filafal's. they are so good for you! With the greek yogurt called tzatziki (it's yogurt, garlic, cucumbers) which is also like 20 calories per serving, which is a tablespoon (a little goes a very long way!) and I wrap all of this up in a whole grain (Mission brand) tortilla. Sometimes I will slice an avocado too and put it in there. But it's a really filling meal with such a low calorie intake, the beans in the filafal are chick peas and one of the best beans you can eat. I also just read that if you eat bread, which I know is hard for most post op, that if you eat a dense, chewy type of bread, that it is easier on your stomach, because it's heavier and digests slower, these tortilla's are dense and chewy. Although I know a lot of people simply can not tolerate bread post op (I'd like to know if you all can or can't and what your thoughts are)
I also get hummus (again, chick peas) and use it to dip cucumbers in.

I can tolorate some bread foods tortillas are one, but i only allow myself to indulge about once a week, as bread was always one of my weaknesses and can trigger carb cravings with me.
Thanks for the meal idea..
I'd bet this could be even healthier by wrapping it all in a lettuce leaf and foregoing the bread! hmmm may have to try this..lol Thanks again for sharing.

Lost 114 lbs. working on getting rid of a recent 10 lb regain...and WILL succeed!
It took me a long time but now I can tolerate some breads, as you said the thick ones and preferably whole grains. Pasta was a probem too and I still can't eat spaghetti, but thicker pasta such as rigattoni is doable. Crackers and rusks were good for me from very early on and even now are my primary source of grain products.
I generally avoid all of the above foods since I'm a carboholic and although breads and pasta are not "trigger foods" for me I'd rather not take chances.
I like your idea for the falafels. I like chickpeas but have only eaten them as soup and to tell the truth, my stomach is still sensitive to legumes. Neverthess, I'll try to find a recipe for falafels since they are not available ready made here and try it. I have a feeling it will be very good and good for me! Thanks for the suggestion.
