My Initial Appt, Yesterday
So I had my first appt yesterday (though keep in mind, I have had 3 referrals and started out the classes, appts, etc...) and the nutritionist was excited to see me again and glad I made the decision to do this (she and my general Dr have encouraged me in the past to do this) So I headed to the lab (I have Kaiser Permanente, which I love, I know other people have trouble with them, but in 12 years, I never have) to get my labs drawn (will have results by tomorrow, but it was only for stuff like cholesterol, the basics, for a starting point, they will test me again just before surgery to see how my numbers have changed based on the program I need to do before the surgery) anyway, I told the nutritionist that I wished i had followed through last time, I'd already be done with it and impatience is my biggest problem! LOL! So she scheduled 2 of my appts in one day and another a week later! I love it! Normally the first 3 appts are about a month apart from each other! she just saved me 12 weeks of waiting!
So my goal between now and when I see her next is to journal all of my food intake for the day as well as any exercise or movements and eat breakfast, this is a meal i miss all the time, because I have kids and we are always in a rush to get out the door for school or to keep an appt, so I usuall drink my coffee as b'fast and of course spend the rest of the day making it up.
So, that's my update!

that's awesome!! Congrats on the journey!! My apts have tot ake 9 months because of my insurance. how long does yours require? i dont remember. anyways, i feel great and just wanted to encourage you. journaling really helps. have u used the tools here at OH yet? i love them. how much exercise are u supposed to get? or do they just want to see what you're doing and then comment later?
Yeayyy!!! Sounds like your Nutritionist is an awesome gal! High five to her for caring enough to move this along more quickly for you.
Keep on keeping on and the time will be here before you know it!
Try to keep yogurt on hand. and maybe some kind of fresh fruit you like It is just as easy to grab those as it is a cup of coffee... and then you at least get something nutritious in to start your day.. Yep.. I am a morning coffee drinker too.. but discipline myself as much as I can to get something food wise in within 30 minutes of awakening, as this sets our metabolism higher for the day.

My insurance wants you to do a 6 month program. You've got a nutrition class to take, a gastric bypass class to take, a group meeting, then after the group meeting, you meet 5 more times, once a month (some times it can be every other week or every three weeks, you just have to meet with them 5 more times and timing is at the discretion of the nutritionist who consults with the surgeon if you are ready and have completed your classes) with the nutritionist to work on stuff together to prepare for the surgery and post op. But sometimes it can move along faster and sometimes it can move slower depending on the schedule. Some patients get a fast forward because they need it quickly. I have no complications, so I have to go the regular route. You also have to meet with the surgeon once in the begining, for questions and then you meet with him again at your pre-op visit a few days before the surgery. And a psych consultation. I love my insurance. My husband works for a large governement organization, so the insurance with all those people combined really make for a good plan. My surgery is covered 100%. i'm very thankful.
they say 6 months and while I'm optimistic that she scheduled 3 of those appts so close together, it cuts down at least 12 weeks from my wait time. But I also know things come up too. So I really expect to have it right around the 6 month mark, which would put me right around christmas. But it could be sooner. It could be later. I will just wait and see how it all plays out. If I wish for it to be sooner than 6 months, then murphey's law will make it 10 months. KWIM?!

Thanks for the update. Take the time needed to make some of your needed health changes before surgery. There are some in the local support group that had their surgery in just weeks and missed out on the support from the dietician before surgery. They express that they would have liked to have more sessions with the Nut. Use the advisce given to you by your surgical team. The time will zip on by and we will be welcoming you to the loser's bench. Hugs
