How much weight loss is too much

I spoke with my doctor's assistant on the phone this week about trying to get a handle on how much more weight I should lose.  I've lost 110 pounds.  I've gone from a size 22/24 to a 6/8.  My face is looking so thin, almost gaunt.  She told me that with a BMI of 24.4 I'm in an acceptable range.  However, my goal and my primary care doc said I should get down to 130.  My friends/co-workers are concerned I'm losing too much.  Would appreciate your advice.

Marybeth.. How do you feel? You are at a normnal BMI. You are in a very nice and acceptable pant size. When I wanted to get down to my pre-obese weight of 135 my surgeon had a fit! He told me 170. I argued that I at least wanted to hit a normal BMI, and he ok'd it. I am at that normal BMI now and in a size 8 most of the time, occcasionally a 10 but they are fairly loose fitting.

How tall are you? I am 5'6".

It sounds to me like you are in an excellent place weight wise. You do not want to get ill, nor be too thin. If you feel good where you are, I'd recommend not going much farther. I think from your last pics i saw you are perfect!

Remember tho.. this is all just MY own little ole opinion

Lost 114 lbs. working on getting rid of a recent 10 lb regain...and WILL succeed!

I'm 5'4" weight 142.2, size 6 pants.  I feel pretty good - other than the pain in my neck but that has nothing to do with weight loss.  My left knee still stiffens up and hurts when I sit to long.  They said I needed my knees replaced originally, however, I just saw my orthopedic surgeon and he said to put it off as long as possible.

I'm just afraid that if I start eating more I'll gain back some weight.

I appreciate your opinion!

I sure understand that fear of regain.  are you still losing quite regularly, or has it slowed to a crawl? Stopped?

I was going up and down a pound and one half  for about a week then lost 2 more pounds.  Last night I ate a good dinner and gained .4 back.  I'm not worried.  I took yours and Kathy's advice.

MaryBeth, health is more than just a number on the scale. How do your feel? Are you in good spirits, active, feeling at your best? If so, then it is time to work on maintenance. Not everyone is meant to be stick thin. Though you are looking great. Focus on optimum health and happiness. Hugs

thanks Kathy.  Emotionally I have some problems but I'm working on that.  Health wise I'm a lot better.  I had some edema in my feet the other day but I think maybe ate something that was too salty. It's gone now.

thanks Vicki.  I'm not going to worry about it.  I feel fine and I'm not worried about losing more.  I've been eating more which is causing me to fluctuate a pound or two but I'm ok with that.
