I am so going through so much of the same things you are going through.   I think mind is just mind and head hunger.  You get into the same ruts and it just pops into your head and you just got to have it.   Mine right now is chadder cheese.  I crave it.   I guess i will have to sprinkle some on everything i eat to maybe stop the craving.  My worse nightmare is wanting to snack and eat at night, not as much as in the day time.
I have really got to get to work on this.  Once it starts in it is very hard to get strightened back out.  have to go back to basics.   That is what i am having to do.  Hope all gets better.

Hi Kim,

Wow, we are taking on some of the same demons.  Head issues and life struggles.  I am glad you came to share.  Let's work together to make the best choices for our health.  I wanted carbs tonight, went to bed instead.  I was tired and sleep made more sense than carbs.

Starting to get serious about imncreasing intensity of exercise is another short term goal of mine.

Try to think of this as a healthy life style, not the dreaded four letter word diet.  The weight loss is not a short term goal, but a life long adventure.  Focus on quality proteins, I am trying to do this too.  Back to the basics for both of us.  Hugs for success.

ok..I can help clear this up for you...I think...I hope!

There are good carbs (complex carbs) There are bad carbs (simple carbs)
Simple carbs are those that come from sugar sources, and complex carbs come from grains, fruits and vegetables. (although some believe that fruit carbs are simple carbs...but they are different to me as they come from nature and there is fiber in fruit and it is an unprocessed sugar that naturally occurs in fruits and even some veggies.

Now the reason fruits and veggies are carb sources are for 2 reasons.  First, the "natural sugars" fructose and sucrose (I believe i am recalling this second one right) are a carb. Then any fiber that the fruit and veggie contains is also a carb. A very complex carb that stays in the system longer than a sugary carb, thus helping maintain blood levels (sugar) and prevent carb crashes.

Good carbs (complex carbs) come from grain sources too. Flour (and flour products), rice, oats, and other grains. These contain a lot of fiber. Problem is, if they are used in a highly processed form, they loose most nutrtional value other than what is artificially put back into them. therefore you need to avoid the "whites" and go with whole grain, whole wheat, brown rice, etc. Now just because these are "good carbs" doesn't mean we can over indulge. serving size needs to be small and not with every meal (the grains that is) or you may find them triggering more carb cravings.

I prefer to get almost all of my carbs from fruit and veggie sources as these are naturally occuring foods that have not been processed and messed with , so they retain the best nutrients available are very healthy and refreshing too. When I indulge in grain sources, I tend to get drousy and bogged down feeling, unless i limit it to just a few small bites.

wow, i've learned so much! we have a bad carb with every dinner but going to switch to whole grain and brown rice soon. is it ok to have it 1x a day? or 2x a day? i know issues for my dietician, and we'll get there but next month is snacks and elimating chips. ive been eating the same way for 10 years, no wonder i've put on so much weight with emotional triggers and pych meds. well back to my book. thanks for helping so much!!

I would say that for now, being pre-op it is okay to have it once or twice a day, just limit it to a small portion and focus on the protein and veggies for the most part. Post op, it will be different. Also different surgeons and nuts recommend different things post op too.. When youget there, we can talk about all this more.
Glad I could help and you were able to learn alot from it.
