Does anyone else HATE salads?
I'm just concerned about my preop and post op diet. i cannot stomach salads and some vegatbles. i think i can drink tomato juice but i dont like tomatos themselves. wasnt sure if anyone can relate or help me. i love yogurt, string cheese, grapes, and many other kinds of fruit... hubby did get me to eat brussel sprouts but the whole not using butter thing is hard for me. i know i have to talk to my dietician about it but i wanted to talk to u all first. next month we're hitting snacks and chips this month was my water intake.

Cool Sara, you posted more than once. Love it.
There are other ways to get your veggies in besides salad. I do love salad and couldn't wait till I could start with them again after surgery. Sometimes being able to eat or tolerate veggies is in the preparation. I have grown to love roasted veggies. Take your fresh veggies that you like, any kind, except green leafy ones, can be roasted. Even cabbage is good raosted. Cut larger veggies into bite size pieces, green beans, asaragus and baby carrots can be cooked as is. Put them into a bowl, spray with a little cooking spray (butter flavor, olive oil flavor or plain) sprinkle with your seasonings. I like to use variety with the seasonings, Mrs. Dash, salt and pepper, parsley and dried basil, oregano, use your imagination. Spread on a baking sheet and bake at 400 to 425 starting for 15 minutes, rearrange and cook at 5 minute intervals until desired doneness. No butter is needed due to the flavors added.
I give you credit for trying brussel sprouts, of course I love them too. I was raised in a small town and we had one of the largest veggie gardens in town, fresh veggies all summer long. Then the work of canning and freezing for the winter too. I try to get my hubby to eat veggies, it is still a struggle, I fix them, eventually after several times of appearing at a meal, he may take one bite. He tells me that he doesn't like ..... you fill in the blank. When I ask him if he has ever tried the veggie, I will get a shrug of the shoulders.
Another way that I love veggies, now these are the salad topping veggies is to dice up raw carrots, celery, radishes, cucumber, peppers, and any other veggie that you like raw. Put the mixture in a large glass container, this does work best when you use a cucumber in the mix, add garlic salt, use a liberal amount. Seal the jar, shake it up a couple of times a day and in a few hours you will have garlic crunchy veggies. I can eat them plain, or top a lettuce salad with this. Another option, use the same raw veggies, except the cucumber, no garlic sald either, and add the raw veggies to cooled (room temp) jello, refrigerate until jello set. Makes a crunchy jello that takes some time to chew. Lemon, orange or lime jello work great with veggies in them.
Hope this helps. Hugs

I like my salads but I still have trouble eating raw veggies. I also don't like plain, boiled veggies. Besides the roasted/grilled veggies Kathy already mentioned, I like to cook my veggies in tomato sauce with a little olive oil and plenty of spices, I add veggies to just about every meal I cook by sauteeing, stewing, stir frying or whatnot along with the meat. I combine veggies with cheese and eggs for amazing omelettes and I don't believe I ever have a meal that doesn't incude at least 1 or 2 veggies alone or as part of the dish. Onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, garlic, asparagus, carrots, bell peppers...how can you go wrong if you add such veggies to your food?
I LOVE my veggoies and fruits... so much! It hasn't always been like this tho. This changed for me as I started incorerating them into my diet regularly, and got creative with preparing them.

Hi Sara,
I love salad and most veggies. At this point I'm only on liquids so i don't know how I will stomach them. I can say I have had then in a blenderized soup and they were good! I don't like brussel sprouts! Yuk. But I can eat a salad any day especailly with grilled chicken. Makes a wonderful meal.
