Goal Weight- How did you decide to set it?

So, I have been thinking.  (Some of my friends would say that was dangerous)  How did you decide on your desired goal weight? and did you change it along the way?  I feel like I decided on a goal weight prior to surgery that was realistic but now that I am living this lifestyle, I'm kinda wondering if I should make some adjustments.  I will be talking to my doctor about this on my next appointment, but I wanted to find out what other people did and how they made their decision.

I feel great and I think I should set my goal to be a lower for a couple of reasons. I still think for my height that I should go lower and then just see where my body feels its should be.  Does that make sense?

It makes a lot of sense. Sometimes I think our bodies let us know when we are in the right place for it. I know a lady who works hard at this and had surgery 5 years ago, but can't get below 178 no matter what she does. her body is content I guess.

At first I was thinking, I want to weight 135, like before i ever had kids...HA! Not so sure bout that now.  My surgeon wanted me at 170... I was not hapopy with that. So I decided I'd shoot for hitting a normal BMI and let him know what I wanted to go for. He agreed , and I have done that. Now, I'd be good with losing a bit more, but if not, I am happy where I am for the most part. I am at 154. Would love to get to 150...but am thrilled to be at a normal BMI!

By the way... you should update your avatar and let us see how you are progressing! hint hint..lol

I want to get to a normal BMI but my PCP says that's too thin and I'm also thinking it might be impossilbe to get there, which is 145.  I would be thrilled with 160.  I finally hit 191.4 pounds this morning.  That represents an even 90 pounds lost WOOHOO!

Welcome back Lourdes.

Your goal weight should be a weight where you are healthy, happy and enjoying life and all that there is to do.  Start by finding a mutual goal that you and your surgeon find acceptable.  End with where you are at your best.  We are not all meant to be model thin, but we are all meant to be as healthy as possible.

I would love to be a normal BMI, but with my body, I will be happy with something closer to overweight than super morbid obesity.  Goal weight is just a number on the scale.  There is so much more to life than a three digit number.  Are you able to do more things than before surgery?  Sure you are, and more great things are still in order.  Healthy bodies, here we come.  Have a great week.  Hugs

Thank you everyone with our comments.  I found them so helpful.  Patrece, I know I should updated my avatar.  What's funny is that my mom wants a pic of me and I have told her she will have to wait until she comes visit me.   I may breakdown and send her one, she's been hearing all about my weightloss from family and is completely in the dark.  :)

I have a good pic, but I can't seem to get it to work on the website. I think I'll fiddle around with it.

I feel afraid of shooting for anything lower than 180.  As I am starting at superobse/400 pounds... I think that for me, anything that would be a more normal weight would be fine for me even I'd still be a *****ubby.  I don't know if others in my category agree, but failing to get to 130 would make me feel worse than if I just shot for 180 or 200 and adjusted the goal later.
