Hi everyone!!  My name is Farrah.  I'm 32 years old and live in Illinois. I'm married to a wonderful man and we have one 3 year old son. This is my first time posting anything on this website.  I just got approval from my insurance company for my surgery.  My date is July 27.  I'm very excited.  It seems like this has been a very long journey and I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.  I will admit I do have some fears as well.  You hear some of these horror stories and it kinda sticks with you.  I just keep telling myself that all will be well and I can't afford not to do this.  I would love to make some new friends who are going through the same thing.  It seems like no one can truely understand what I'm going through if they haven't been in the same situation.  I would love to hear about your journey!!

 Hi Farrah,
I am so glad you are here and you are posting. I am fairly new as well but everyone here has been wonderful. I am having my surgery this Tuesday, I know where you are coming from. The horror stories you hear are basically like the ones you hear when you are pregnant. Everyone has something that went wrong or someone they know who had a horrible time etc. Remember they are stories and some people exaggerate it. I learned a long time ago to let it all go and not listen to people because everyone is different. having a tooth pulled can be dangerous and I have had a few of those too.

The decision you made to have this surgery is not only a gift for you but for that wonderful son you have. Having his mommy around and having her be able to play and go places with him, being able to keep up and such.

Please add me as a friend. I will be here for you and many others will too.

Take care and good luck.

Welcome Farrah. Congrats on getting your surgery date! 67 mustang is right.. people love to tell the tales, and many are exaggerated. Most wls patients do not ever go through many of those things. Some people just love to spread the scarey stuff.

I am almost 2 years out. I had RNY. I have gone from a tight 24 to an 8 in pants and am now at a normal BMI. I can literally run and play with my grandbabies and its awesome! No more high blood pressure, no more severe pitting edema, no more having to stand on my head to wipe my butt..lol.

The important thing is to always remember this is not another diet. this is not a magic cure. It will require a lifestyle change and healthy food choices to continue to enjoy lifelong success. This is probably the hardest part of all. BUT always remember as you begin to lose weight and get healthy, where you have come from and where you are going and how much you never want to go back to where you started before wls. There will be challenges and frustrations, but there will be awesome rewards and it is all so worth it!
Welcome to our group!

Hi Farrah!  Congratulations on your surgery date!  I was anxious as well before my surgery and I had plenty of people telling me horror stories.  I just thanked them for letting me know and continued with my daily business.  Yes, I did the research and I did look at the potential issues but it was a risk I had to take for my health and future.  The benefits far outweighed the risk for my situation.

This is a great group of people, make sure you ask any questions.  Like you said it's  nice to have friends that are going through the same thing.  Patrece, Kathy, and Vickie are so helpful and great.

On a side note, I'm also in Illinois too!

Have a great day!

Welcome to the family Farrah.  This is an exciting time.  There are so many more positive stories than horror ones, the only ones that seem to get spread around are the bad.  I am pleased with the results to this point with my RNY.  I am still a work in progress.  Let's do this together.

Start with a positive attitude and you will go far with your goals.  We are here to support each other through this grand adventure.  Yayyyy wls.

Hugs, Kathy
