10 days left
So I have 10 days till my surgery. Had my pre-op apt. today where they poked and proded me. It all went well except my blood pressure was high and Ive never had high bp before. by the end they took it again and it went down but I was still pretty freaked out by it. Im actually nervous about the sergery for the first time. I guess more the pain Ill be in after. I know I get a pain pump but Im still scared. I also am afraid of complications for the first time. I guess it kinda all hit home today for me. Maybe thats why my BP was so high. lol
Anywho, just wanted to stop by say hi and let everyone know whats going on. Even though I may not post alot I do browse alot and keep tabs on everyone. Best wishes to everyone. Thanks

You having lap RNY or open? Either way... I know it's scary but you can do it! The fear didn't really hit me until the day of surgery. But, it passed as soon as they knocked me out. lol
I'm a complete whimp when it comes to pain. I had laparoscopic RNY in October. They gave me a pain pump as well. I did feel it when I woke up, but the pain wasn't really too bad. The first few days were the worst, but the meds got me through them. Some make it through without ever even using the pump.
I returned home two days after surgery. Then the only time I had a problem was trying to lay down to sleep or getting up from a sitting position. You just have to take your time getting around for a while. Someone here mentioned a recliner would be the easiest way to get sleep at home at first... and they were right. At times, sitting up in the recliner was the only way I could sleep. That only lasted for a few weeks though.
Congratulations and best of luck to you!

Thanks for the encouragement. I normally have a high pain threshold but for some reason I am kinda scared of it. I'm having Lap RNY so I hope that means less pain. I know I will be freaking out the day of. Ive had surgery before and I almost didn't do it cause I was so scared I was gonna die during. I'm not so scared of that now but I am scared of me having complications that may kill me. I'm glad I have this place that I can talk about it, my husband doesn't like it at all when i do. I know hes scared as well.
I was freaked out to.. complications pain etc.. what was going to happen.
All my fears were unfounded. Only had to use the pain pump a couple of times.
Matter of fact, I had to much pain meds left in it that they had to drain it out before I left the hospital!
I had surgery on a Tuesday (3/16/10) and the worst day was Wed.
After that it was like a switch was flipped and I was feeling great. Thursday I wanted to go home, but didn't get released until Friday.
Upon arriving home, I just took it easy on saturday and sunday, by monday I was ready to roam around. That next sunday I went out karoking with my friends before returning to work on Monday.
Here's to a speedy recover and no complications.

It is so normal to fear the pain and comlications. But really especially with lap, the pain is not as bad as we fear it will be. The first few days are the worst, but not intolorable. You will be pain free before you know it. I agree too, that once home the worst of it is getting into a laying position or back up from it. Aside from that the worst f the discomfort was just from the air they pumped into me to do the sirgery. Walking helps get rid of that. Be sure to take several small walks a day to get rid of that air and to prevent clots.
Risks during surgery are no different than for any surgery. Complications after, yes there is a chance for some, but it is not the typical. The biggy is making sure you get in your water and little walks. Don't want clots!

Misty, the feelings you are having are normal and expected. Those that have had troubles seem to stick out. But remember, you are choosing to do something wonderful for your future. I had lap RNY, only needed the strong pain med for a few days, the worst discomfort was getting in and out of bed the first few days. Then a little constipation later on. There are lots of us that have had uneventful surgery and recovery. You will be here on the losing side of surgery very, very soon and relieved that surgery day is over.
Pack your lip balm, slip on slippers ( I found reaching my feet very difficult for a few days after surgery) and a pillow to pad the seatbelt for the trip home. Dress in a loose outfit for travel, you will be out of the street clothes soon after arrival in the hospital and can wear the same outfit home. Hugs
